Football Update: Premier League news- Manchester United, Stoke City, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspurs
Manchester United: Manchester United veteran goalkeeper, Edwin Van Der Sar has played down all reports claiming that the player has reached the decision to hand up his gloves at the end of the current season. The 39 year old joined Manchester
United from Fulham in 2005 and has enjoyed his best years with Manchester United. However, United goalkeeping coach Eric Steele recently released a statement regarding the future of Van Der Sar, stating that Edwin has made his mind up and is expected to retire
by the end of this season. However, the former Dutch International has rubbished all such reports and claimed that he wishes to remain focused on Manchester United and he doesn’t know himself when he wants to stop.
“Only in the course of this season will I think about it. Then I will decide and not before. For now I keep my focus on United," claimed the 39 year old former Juventus goalkeeper.
Stoke City: Stoke City chairperson Peter Coates has defended his side’s negative image and stated that his side has always played the game in a positive spirit. Coates statement was backed by his side’s midtable presence in the disciplinary
list of the premier league. "We are a strong team, we are competitive, but we like to think we are fair and play the game in the right spirit. That's how it should be. If you look at the disciplinary league table this year, we are doing okay. We are sitting
in 10th place and you will see in that league table some notable names below us and some red cards being shown to those notable names as well,” claimed the Stoke City Chairman.
Sunderland: Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce has full faith in his side and expects the Black Cats to get better as the season progresses. The side currently has 8 points from 7 fixtures so far in the Premier League and enjoys one of the
best attacking line-up. Steve Bruce plays a bold 4-3-3 formation with Bent, Welbeck and Al Hajdi as the three attackers. Asamoah Gyan, who joined Sunderland in a record 13 million pound deal, also adds a lot from his limited playing time from the bench. However,
the manager has claimed that he was happy with where they were in the table, although things may have been better had there been lesser injuries. Bruce claimed that his side has the right mix and depth needed for a top ten finish and is actually enjoying working
with players who have the positive attitude. The Black Cats boss added that since their pre-season, it is wonderful to see the work rate of the players and is absolutely delighted by the work each and every player is putting in. Bruce concluded that each of
his players have the ambition and greed for success and that is the most important thing for any manager.
Tottenham Hotspurs: Tottenham Hotspurs playmaker Niko Kranjcar scored a brace to catapult his side Croatia to the top of Group F. Kranjcar brace was enough to sink Israel in Tel Aviv, as Croatia defeated Israel 2-1. Kranjcar formed a good
partnership with his club team mates Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric and was the stand out player for his national side. Both of Kranjcar goals came towards the end of the first half, as the player managed to score both of them within matter of five minutes.
Kranjcar’s first goal came from a penalty kick, while the other one was a beautiful set up by Modric and Kranjcar managed to control the ball and eased past the Israeli goalkeeper.
