Football Update: Premier league news- Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United
FULHAM
Cottagers’ manager, Mark Hughes has revealed that Fulham had to move quickly to sign Moussa Dembele from AZ Alkmaar in the dying moments of the transfer window. When the news came that the player was in the last year of his contract at this former club, Fulham chiefs and officials had to move very quickly to snap up his signatures
LIVERPOOL
Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson has refused to set any targets for his first season at the helm of the Reds. The manager saw an emphatic display from goal keeper Pepe Reina, as his side managed a goalless draw at Birmingham on Sunday. That draw gave his side to five points from four premier league matches, from a possible 12. The former Fulham boss has also denied reports claiming that for Reds to win the premier league this season was just plain unrealistic. The manager said that he never said such a thing and he doesn’t usually set targets. That is something he never does. Hodgson’s target is to prepare the team well in order perform at the highest level in each game. From that, the Reds will play and expect the best from their performances. “If you ask me the question 'Can this team win the league?' I would say I don't know. We will take each game as it comes, work hard in every game, and see where we are in May. I think it is amusing people are discussing whether teams can win the league after four games,” stated Roy Hodgson.
The manager claimed that each team has to play 38 games in the premier league. The manager thus would like Liverpool to play as well as possible in every game and get as many points on the board as they possibly can. Hodgson, however, claimed that he wasn’t prepared to make any further statements whether this team can manage to win the league this season or not.
MANCHESTER CITY
English goalkeeper Joe Hart has accepted full responsibility for goalkeeping blunder that led to Blackburn’s opening goal at the City of Manchester Stadium. Manchester City's drew their first match at the Eastland’s this season on Saturday. Following his massive impression in the first month of the season, which led him to claim the number jersey with England, Hart has unexpectedly shown signs of susceptibility. The 24-year-old was shaky in the first 10 minutes, while featuring for his country against Switzerland last week and recently got into a real jumble with Kolo Toure to gift Nikola Kalinic with a simple tap-in goal. As the goalkeeper who is clearly better than this and has had a far better view of the dangers that were lurking, Joe Hart is aware that he should have taken control of the situation. The player has thus accepted the blame and agreed that the mistake was his alone. The player claimed that when he got there and Kolo was just about to head it, the defender heard him coming and left it to guide the ball to safety. Hart thus claimed that it was his doing that he got in the way was sorry for coming in the way.
MANCHESTER UNITED
Red Devils Midfielder Darren Fletcher has accepted that Manchester United have to learn a lot of lessons from their away performances so far this season, if they are to evade serious injury to their Barclays Premier League title challenge this season. Having spent season after season winning last-gasp victories against opponents, Sir Alex Ferguson's men received a taste of their own medicine at Goodison Park. Everton fought back from 3-1 down at the 90 minute to snatch a draw with two goals in injury time at their home stadium. In what their only first away match this season, United saw Fulham's Brede Hangeland score the equalizing goal on the 89th minute to earn a 2-2 draw. Portuguese winger Nani had the opportunity to wrap it up for the Red Devils but missed the penalty shot. Those silly four points are the only difference between the current third spot Red Devils and table tops and defending Premier League champions Chelsea, who are currently the only side which enjoys a 100 per cent record.
