Football Update: Premier league news- Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspurs, West Bromwich Albion
Sunderland
Black Cats manager, Steve Bruce is relishing the chance to pair club-record 13m pound signing Asamoah Gyan with Darren Bent on the front line. The manager has openly admitted that the club relied too much on the services of one Darren Bent, for whom the
club had to splash an initial £10m last season in what Bruce’s first season in charge of the club. The manager has now invested heavily to give the previous season’s top scorer a worthy partner in the form of Gyan. Gyan had a dream debut with Black Cats when
he scored in his debut match against Wigan Athletic and a good attacking display can be expected by Sunderland this season. The manager thus claimed that they bought a player who would give Bent a hand. Bruce expects the partnership between Gyan and Bent to
be a fruitful one but expects Bent to be the bigger star of the two.
Tottenham Hotspurs
Newly signed Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has claimed that he feels he is at the right place, even though it has been less than a week at his new home in the UK. Van Der Vaart was a surprise transfer deadline minute transfer from Real
Madrid and made his first team debut in Spurs 1-1 draw at West Brom on the weekend.
"It was a good first game, I played 90 minutes and it was just a pity we didn't win the game. I was a little tired at the end but I gave everything and overall, I thought it was a good day. We were much the better team in the first half and normally
we'd score one or two goals more. West Brom played a good second half and in the end 1-1 was okay. My first game was never going to be easy but this is a great team with great players and they are all great guys as well, so I feel at home right away."
Stated the 27 year old Dutch International.
Rafael has managed to spend two seasons with Spanish Giants Real Madrid, where he made 70 appearances. The player was however more of an impact substitute, which led him to look for opportunities elsewhere. Van Der Vaart favoured to move to the premier league
long ago but with giants Manchester United. However, the Red Devils were not interested and Van Der Vaart moved to newly Champions league promoted side Tottenham Hotspurs.
West Bromwich Albion
West Bromwich midfielder, Steven Reid has claimed that Birmingham City’s new signings have elevated the competition for their local rivals. West Bromwich would be hosting the midland derby this weekend, when Alex Mcleish’s squad travel to the Hawthorn stadium
on Saturday. Birmingham have bought couple of big name player which include Alexander Hleb, Martin Jiranek, Beausejour, Nikola Zigic and Matt Derbyshire. All these players have already joined a side who finished 9th last season and Reid claimed
that many of the low lying premier league clubs are doing major investments. Meaning no offense to Birmingham, the player claimed that Hleb is a player who has played for top European clubs in the form of Barcelona and Arsenal. Those clubs have top heritage
as compared to Birmingham and having such players would prove a mega test on the weekend. To have such player in the side is good for clubs like Birmingham but makes the job of clubs like West Brom harder. The player vowed to go into the Saturday game with
full confidence.
