Football Update: Premiere League News- Wolves vs. Liverpool (First half report)
Liverpool went into the locker rooms at half time against Wolves one goal to the good, thanks to Fernando Torres. The Reds were overall in control and dominated the proceedings throughout the first period.
A few Liverpool fans were believed to be unhappy about the inclusion of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114 but the midfielder made an impact right at the start. He was the first player to be booked by referee Martin Atkinson he brought down Stephen Ward as Wolves broke forward.
Wolves were down to 10 men for few minutes as Christophe Berra needed some stitches in a head injury. It looked like he was caught by one of his team-mates, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Doyle-c20719.
Liverpool were living a little bit dangerously as the ball flew around their area but, eventually, they cleared their lines. Wolves had started at a very high tempo, but did not have anything to show for it so far.
After Liverpool struggled to clear their lines from a corner, Wolves came forward again but, nothing happened. Kevin Doyle's attempted cross ended up being a looping shot that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 had to pluck from under his crossbar. The Reds seemed happy to soak
up any attacks from the home side and tried to hit back on the break.
Liverpool broke forward, and went close to grabbing the opener. Raul Meireles found Fernando Torres with a clipped ball forward and a lovely touch by Torres took him past Richard Stearman... but the Spaniard could not beat Wayne Hennessey with his shot from
the edge of the box.
Once again, there was good movement from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, and another shooting chance. Maxi Rodriguez darted into space to meet a ball into the box and, with team-mates waiting on the edge of the area waiting to be teed-up, he went for goal himself. Wayne Hennessey
was down to save comfortably enough.
Liverpools constant pressure paid off and they got the deserved goal. It was a big, big decision for the female assistant referee (or lineswoman). Wolves appealed for offside as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678 ran on to Christian Poulsen's pass down the right but Sian Massey
was dead right not to flag because he was definitely on. Meireles advanced into the box and, unselfishly, squared for Fernando Torres the Spaniard calmly tapped it in to make it 1-0.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 was having a real battle with Wolves defender Richard Stearman - they seemed to go at it every time they tussled for possession and Torres had been told by Martin Atkinson that he will be booked for his next offence. Torres had just had another
go at goal, running on to a Maxi Rodriguez pass, but that time he was clearly off side. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952 played well in final few minutes to exert pressure on Liverpool, but the reds held on to keep the 1-0 lead.
