Football Update: Real Madrid Has Begun To Roar In La Liga
Real Madrid is probably the biggest club of Europe at the moment. However, they have not gained that fame in an easy fashion. This has been backed by years of success in domestic, as well as in European competitions. Real Madrid has won a record 31 league
titles, combined with nine Champions League titles.
However, they were being threatened by their archrivals, Barcelona. In recent times, Barcelona has achieved a lot of fame and success as well. Madrid’s worries started when Barcelona won a treble in 2008-2009 Season, an unprecedented event in the history
of Spanish football. Apart from that, Barcelona had brilliant individuals in their teams, including the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi, who were all in the race of being called the best players in the world.
At this point, there was a need to take drastic actions, in order to save the popularity and status of Real Madrid. The real point of concern was that the team emerging as the new European giants was the archrivals of Real Madrid. So, Florentino Perez was
re-elected as the president of Madrid, in a hope to bring back the days of the Glacticos. Perez, after coming into presidency, decided to rebuild his team from scratch. As a result, he got rid of many players playing at that moment, and decided to replace
them with fresh faces.
Unlike Barcelona, who developed their squad from their own youth system, Madrid had to buy some quality players in order to stand shoulder to shoulder with Barcelona, in the very next season. As a result, record sums were paid in order to attract players
like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema into the team. Although, it made Madrid financially weak, however the signings were inevitable.
However, all that money spent did not pay off in that season. Madrid failed again to beat Barcelona in that season, while they also lost the title race. At this point, some further steps were required from Madrid’s administration. As the club had dreams
to shine at the European stage as well as the domestic level, so change of manager was important. Jose Mourinho was brought in, because of his reputation of being successful in Europe as well as the league competitions.
Mourinho, after coming to Madrid, spent more money to strengthen his squad. In the summer, some more high profile names, including Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria and Sami Kheidra were signed, in order to consolidate the midfield. This was the maximum that Florentino
Perez could do for the club, while everything else was left on the hands of players and their manager.
In the beginning of this season, Madrid seemed to be facing problems similar to their last season. Players seemed to have little understanding between them, which was resulting in loss of points. Even the new players were failing to make a mark, which was
very problematic for Mourinho.
However, in recent weeks, Real Madrid seems to be back on the track. In their last two league matches, Madrid secured victories with big margins, establishing themselves as an attacking team. Previously, people believed that Mourinho would change Madrid’s
style into a defensive style, which was more preferred by the manager. On the contrary, Mourinho has learnt the tricks and is successfully adjusting himself to Madrid’s style of attacking play. Due to the recent success, Madrid is sitting on top of the La
Liga table, one point ahead of Barcelona.
Apart from success in domestic league, Madrid has started to reclaim their superiority in Europe as well. The second most successful team in Europe, i.e. AC Milan, faced Madrid recently, and were humiliated by them in Bernebeu. Two goals were scored by Madrid
early on, in quick succession, while AC could not produce a reply in the remaining part of the match.
So, it is safe to assume that Real Madrid is starting to roar once again. They are also playing better football than Barcelona, which makes them favourite to win the title this season. Also, with Barcelona out of the picture, Madrid is also the favourites
to win the Champions League.
