Football Update: Recap of Sunday Night La Liga
Spanish Football Action is back for the year 2011 after the Christmas and New Year break. The recap of the five Sunday night fixtures at La Liga is briefly summarized with their results and the scores.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Barcelona-c39078 hosted Levante and started their new year with a celebration of fine victory at Camp Nou Stadium. Barcelona beat Levante with their two top defenders missing; Purol due to injury and Pique due to suspension, and also Messi missed the game due
to leave.
Levate’s hopes to win the match ended when they were not awarded with a penalty, clearly fouled by Abidal on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Juanlu-c19854 in the first half. Barca struggled to get to the 2-1 victory over Levente, as they really gave them a tough time in the first half of the
match.
In the second half, Barcelona looked more decent in their play and scored two goals by Pedro, first in the 47th minute and then in the 59th minute, both arranged by Alves for him. Pedro could latter even make his "hat-trick" but he hit the post. Barca´s
play had a clear improvement yet still Levante managed to score in the 80th min by Stauani.
The Spanish mid-fielder, Xavi Hernandez equalled the ex-player Migueli’s record with 549 matches and is just one game away from becoming the “all time historian” game holder with FC Barcelona. A remarkable player with great skills and contributed his best
for the Barca and still has contract with the club till 2016.
In the other tough match for La Liga evening, Athetic De Bilbao hosted the Deportivo and won 1-2 by the visitors. The first goal was scored by Adrian in the 22 minute on a penalty. Later Bilbao had to face more problems in the 34 minute when San Jose was
sent off. Things got more heated when Malaga player J.Rodriguez got a red card in the 45 minute.
The second half was more competitive in favour of Deportivo making their second goal in the 52nd minute of play; this time again scored by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adrián-c3701 sealing the victory for his club. Llorente then scored in the 86th minute for his club Bilbao; but the comeback
attempt was a bit too late.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sevilla-FC-c40484 has a fine home victory after six games 1-0 over a "sticky" Osasuna. Spanish International Jesus Navas’s return to his club gave the side a boost that they were missing and made his side look invincible. The winger was active & key to the team’s
victory. The only goal of the match came in the 35th minute scored by Kanoute with a perfect header.
The game between Real Sporting De Gijon and Malanga was an upset for the home crowd, as Gijon lost 2-1 to Malangan team, full of youngsters. The match was full of controversies, some blamed the referee’s decisions for the Dijon’s defeat but the actual fact
is that the Malanga’s “inexperienced” youngsters got the job done for their club.
Gijon started well with the first goal scored by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Castro-c11103 in the 42nd minute on a penalty. But just after three minutes Malaga equalized in the 45th minute, scored by Wellington & later Apono put Malaga ahead by a controversial penalty in the 59th minute.
In the fifth and last match of the Sunday fixture at La Liga, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-CF-c40864 won 2-1 with 10 men, against RCD Espanyol in a match which turned dark for the home team, as they managed to pull things out of the hole. The home team was playing their best Football
when unluckily Valencia defender R http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Costa-c9458 put in an own goal in the extra minute of first half and allowed the visitors to equalize.
The second half then went terribly wrong for Valencia when Aduriz was sent off in the 69th minute of the play for a violent aggression. Valencia goalie Guaita then saved a "must goal" from Callejon in the 71st minute.
The last 20 minutes action brought the real suspense with both goalies being the main actors, until Valencia forward turned a corner-kick that touched 4 players in a breath-taking play & the winning goal.

Espanyol lost because they could not make a good use of Valencia’s loss of one man and missing clear chances while Valencia won with some grit & indeed some late found luck.
