Football Update: Robinson Cold Shouldered England’s Coach, Capello for not including him in the World Cup 2010 Squad
Paul Robinson has admitted that he was frustrated over the team’s play under Fabio Capello’s reign. He has in fact been the reason for his decision to retire from international football.
Just hours after his call-back to England’s squad, the thirty year old decided to call some time off from his international career and it has been confirmed that he will not be facing Hungary at Wembley.
Robinson was overlooked by Capello for the World Cup squad, and has never played for the English team ever since Capello took charge in the end of 2007.
This seems to be the reason why the English player rejected the offer from Capello for a return to the English camp. The rejection came from the player when they complained that he had no interest in playing for a team in which he had such a small timer’s role, emphasizing that after all he was playing for his own country.
He commented on the matter by saying that he has decided to retire from his international football career taking immediate effect and has only been able to make this decision, as he was not even included in the argument for selection of the Three Lions squad.
He further went on to say that as a player who is keen on playing every match, he cannot settle with being the third or fourth goalie, as it frustrated him and he grew anxious which diminished his performance.
He has never been the first choice in the past few years with Capello and now feels that it is in his best interest and his clubs that he should only focus on his club Blackburn Rovers and wishes the English team a win in every match that it plays.
Robinson last played with the English team under Steve McLaren, when an error from his part cost the team the match and they lost 2-1 against Russia and this was the reason that England did not qualify for the Euro 2008 Championship.
Robinson has forty one appearances in his international career and was the reason for a major blunder, which made England score an own goal. This happened when he failed to connect with Gary Neville and this ultimately led to England loose to Croatia with a score of 2-0.
This goalie was born in Yorkshire and has shown gigantic improvements over the past few years with the Blackburn Rovers. Still has not got any major call backs from the national team.
Capello only called in Robinson in a qualifying match against Andorra and Kazakhstan, when David James was injured, still Capello did pick him over the goal keeper from the Spurs while doing so.
Sam Allardyce, the Blackburn’s boss darned Capello for not picking Blackburn’s number one player for the World Cup squad earlier in May and said that this decision from the national team’s boss was utterly staggering.
Robinson’s decision to cold shoulder the sixty four year old Capello has further embarrassed him, after the much embarrassing and staggering England’s loss against their bitter rivals, the Germans with a heavy score of 4-1.
Capello has no plans to call a replacement for Robinson and has named a ten man squad for their friendly in the Barclay’s Premier League season.
He has been widely criticized as the players selected are all very young and none of them have even a single international appearance.
Capello was rumoured of being kicked off from the bosses chair but after a lot of consideration, it was decided not to sack him.
The decision came from the FA. A major reason for this move was that if he did get kicked off, then a clause from his contract would have required the FA to pay six million pounds to him.
