Football Update: Ronaldo Gears Up for English Season
One of the most sought after player in present day football is gearing up to make up for his failures in the soccer world cup for his national team, Portugal.
Cristiano Ronaldo was up for a training session, as he attempts to wield his magic at the most expensive football club in the world, Real Madrid.
The Madrid team was out on the field at their practice venue of UCLA campus for some a training session.
Team’s head coach Jose Mourinho, who led Inter Milan to a treble last season arrived at the venue with some of the key players in the contingent for a 11 day practice session besides a couple of international friendly games.
Ronaldo as usual, was the centre of attention at the training camp; he remains the most expensive player in soccer history, after a whopping transfer deal from English team Manchester United to Real Madrid.
The transfer was an astonishing amount of 132 million (USD) dollars, for a contract that obliges him to play for the Spanish giants for five more years.
Ronaldo is keen on letting go of the memories of the failed World cup campaign that saw the Europeans crash out against eventual winners Spain, in the second round of the tournament, in a campaign where he was the captain.
The Real stars practiced for more than two hours, concentrating on different features of their game as they attempt to fine tune before the start of the Spanish season.
At the end of the session Ronaldo addressed a press conference; the Portuguese star praised his team’s all star coach Mourinho, who has had a great run in the European scene in the last two seasons for Italian giants Inter Milan.
"It's not every coach who wins the two times champions’ league. And, it is not easy. And what he wins in the clubs, well, the trophies speak for it selves, I think. And I have to speak a lot about him. Everyone knows him. So far, this is great. Not just for me. For all players is great to be part of his work. I think he's good. We feel motivated. We feel in good shape. So, it's always good to work with the best players and the best coach. So, it's great. It's great for us.”
The 47 year old Mourinho has signed a four year contract with the Spanish team and felt that the Spain needs to move on from their world cup success and build on their future; his sentiments were shared by the Portuguese captain
"Well, the World Cup is finished," stated Ronaldo. "We have to focus not on Madrid. I'm really focused. I am really confident for this season. We come here to Los Angeles to carry on with the tournament. So, we are ready, we are ready for the season. We have more, a few days of training. So, when we start the season we will be ready."
The winning outfit from Spain included three leading Read Madrid players like captain Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, and Xabi Alonso, who all played sterling roles in team’s win for the first time in their history.
Meanwhile Ronaldo has other things on his mind as besides his performance on the soccer field, the striker also had reasons to celebrate as he became a father earlier in the month.
