Football Update: Ronaldo’s hat-trick put Real Madrid in top spot in Liga BBVA standings.
Real Madrid pulled a great victory of 5-1 against Athletic Bilbao courtesy a hat-trick by the stylish Cristiano Ronaldo. This victory against Athletic Bilbao in Bernabeu has put Real Madrid at the Top in the standings for the Liga BBVA. The Los Blancos howled
into the front with some great display by Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo in the initial half hour until Fernando Llorente dug one back just before half time.
Bilbao fought very dauntlessly but eventually were left far behind in the race by a well kicked penalty by Sergio Ramos and then by a free-kick and yet another spot-kick in the later half by Ronaldo, as Madrid players caught three points.
The visitors made an impressive start. Llorente contributed in majority of the attacks by the visitors. Only in the third minute, his one excellent attack was seen which was cleared off the line after a swift run on the right side of the box nearing the
goal.
Real Madrid started off with a quite start, easing their way into the game started to strengthen in the final third. Skilful work by Angel Di Maria enabled Higuain  to put inaugural goal in the nets for Real Madrid just in the 19th minute.
The athletic did try to put some pressure on the Madrid Llorente forcing Iker Casillas into a fine save in the 29th minute. Bilbao paid the price of over attacking as Ronaldo twined the lead for Madrid in a counter attacking move. In the 40th minute,
the visitors pulled one back to reduce the lead, as Llorente put a goal from point-blank range because of cumulative mistake by the Real defence.
At the start of the second half, the speed of the match seemed to have decreased as both the teams had slowed their game. Madrid were still looking a lot more pleased and comfortable with the ball as they maintained a good possession.
In the 57th minute, Ramos killed the game for Real Madrid as he scored a penalty which was given due to a foul by Markel Susaeta. In return, Bilbao started attacking to get back into the match but failed to cut across the great wall of defence
of Real Madrid.
In the 62nd minute, Ronaldo buried the match and all the hopes for Athletic with an ecstatic free kick into the goal nets closing all the remaining doors for the visitors. Ronaldo scored his excellent and diligent hat-trick to put Real rite at
the top of the standings ahead Barcelona.
