Football Update: Roy Hodgson in January Transfer Window
Roy Hodgson, the manager of Liverpool, is under immense pressure at the moment. He was Rafael Benitez replacement but he is less successful than his predecessor. Under his management, the team has shown one of the worst away forms of the season, after Wolverhampton
Wanderers and Aston Villa. With only one victory on the road, Liverpool is in 12th place in the Barclays Premier League table.
Apart from this, Roy Hodgson has failed to get support from all the Liverpool fans. He was booed away from Anfield which prompted him to challenge the fans’ support and enthusiasm this season. This further aggravated the situation and Hodgson came on the
brink of being sacked from his job. But, due to some reason he is still sticking to his job and is now looking for some reinforcements in January.
After taking over the Liverpool job, the manager saw a lot of players coming into the club. Under Hodgson, Liverpool bought Milan Jovanovic, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Konchesky. However, in a statement made earlier this season,
Hodgson did not own this team and said that it had reflections of Rafael Benitez. This was another bold statement by the manager who was indirectly blaming his lack of success on his players rather than trying to share the blame. A manager is the one who leads
the team by his tactical knowledge but Hodgson is not ready to accept his role in Liverpool’s failures.
Among these players who came to Anfield in the summer of 2010, Hodgson was only happy to bring Meireles, Poulsen and Konchesky, according to one of his statements. This time Hodgson once again reiterated the fact that he had not been active in the transfer
market ever since he took over the job. Hodgson declared that most of the current players in the squad were the ones that had been playing for quite some time. The manager demanded a little bit more time and hoped to get a chance to buy new players and work
according to his own football philosophy.
Nevertheless, Hodgson was humble enough to credit his current players for their support and hard work. He said that the players were good enough to accept new management and playing style and rewarded him with good results. But the team lacked consistency
in getting the good results, according to the Liverpool boss. The Liverpool season has also been hampered by injuries to key players, especially http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196. Hodgson admitted the fact that both players are susceptible to injury and their
availability is essential for the success of the club.
There are rumours that Roy Hodgson will be replaced as he has not been able to fulfil the expectations of the new owners. However, a suitable replacement will be sought before the current manager is allowed to leave his job. At this point, there are rumours
that Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is being contacted but this was denied by the manager.
Nevertheless, Hodgson is looking for a free hand in the transfer market with the availability of some cash. However, Damien Comolli has been hired as the director of football strategy at Liverpool and there are slim chances of Hodgson getting a free hand
in deciding the future of the club. Comolli played a successful role in the current Tottenham Hotspur squad and he has been hired to provide services in the transfer market and development of youth training facilities. The new director will have more of a
say in deciding which players to buy in the transfer market while Hodgson will be confined to his role of training and making tactics.
Apparently, Hodgson will not be able to implement his philosophy at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. He might not stay long enough to do it or he will have to work with Comolli on his philosophy of football. The important thing is that Hodgson has more time to worry about other
important stuff and to remove some of his weak points.
