Football Update: Sir Alex backs the Glazers and promises to go on and on
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has long been speculated to be under pressure from the Club owners no to spend too much cash. Ferguson has come out and said that the rumours are uncalled for and there is nothing wrong between him and the owners.
According to the Forbes Rich list Manchester United is the number one club, the estimated Value of the club is believed to be around 1.84 million dollars that is equitant to 1.18 million pounds. However, what the figure does not show is the debt of the club, which is worth 700 million pounds.
The huge debt is the problem for the fans, and hence instigated the green and gold campaign and the Red Knights have been fighting hard to gather funds to take over the club.
Ferguson said that the club debt is there only because the club was bought by a family with other businesses. The manager added that this is not a new thing and it is pretty normal when a club is taken over.
The Scotsman said that the bad publicity has only come because it is a football club; he said that it is the media that has portrayed the owners as the villains. Ferguson said that when the club went PLC it was inevitable.
The manager said that it is not fair to criticise the Glazer family, as anyone who would have bought the club would have come in with debt.
He went on to say that the Glazer till now have done their job well. Fergie said that the Glazers have supported him throughout and have always stood behind the team. He added that whenever he has approached them for funds to sign a player or for any other expense they have not refused.
Manchester United’s boss said that he is not concerned with all the speculations, and he would carry on doing his job and working hard to make the club better and stronger. Ferguson said that the media can carry on giving bad publicity to the owners, but it would change nothing for him and the team.
While talking to a news channel, Ferguson also said that he wants to stay in charge of the club for as long as he can. He said that yes he did think about calling it a day few years back, but could not imagine his life without Manchester United and now is determined to put together another team that carry on for another decade.
Sir Alex is now 68 years old and about to start 24th season with the Red Devils, he has won 11 league titles and 2 champions league trophies in his time.
Ferguson said it’s the hunger to win that has kept him going for this long, he added that last season he was going for a record of 4th successive title and overtake Liverpool by winning the 19th league title. Chelsea however, halted their charge towards 2 records and took the title away. Fergie said the only thing on his mind right now is to get back the crown from the blues. He said that Chelsea has become much stronger over the years and tough competition in the league only makes him more motivated to go on and on.
Sir Alex went on to say that he is very excited by the crop of young players he has, he especially named Wayne Rooney and said that he is one of the rarest talents he has seen over his whole career. Ferguson added that he hopes that the striker can stay away from injury, and if he can do that there is no doubt that he would go down as one of the greatest of all time.
