Football Update: Spanish La Liga Round-up – Week 15 (Part 2)
In the ONO Stadium, Michael Laudrop’s Mallorca were to face Racing. A 92nd minute goal from Oscar Serrano helped Racing take the three points while being away from home as Mallorca sank down to the 10th spot, right behind Real Sociedad
and Atletic Bilbao and only a point above Sevilla, who were also defeated on Saturday against a bottom of the table Almeria. With a defeat against Almeria, Sevilla have now lost four games in a row, while being at home.
With Almeria winning against the “disappointing” Sevilla, they managed to move out of the relegation zone where Real Zaragoza, Sporting and Malaga occupy the three spaces. The change in the manager of Almeria did come in handy for the team as they managed
to take the three points from Sevilla, who look to be in a terrible condition this season.
Sporting could only draw 1-1 at home as they were to entertain Levante and now they stand on the 19th position with only 11 points. Malaga are the side who stand two points above Sporting; however, they were thrashed by the newly promoted side
Hercules. The final score of the game was 4-1 as Hercules continued their Spanish La Liga run. It was David Trezeguet who was on target yet again, as he scored his eighth goal of the season.
Currently, Barcelona sit at the top and they had to face a newly promoted side Real Sociedad on the weekend. Real Sociedad have been impressive during the season and they have impressed many with their fantastic wins over last year’s wonder teams – including
the out-of-form Sevilla who lost their fourth home game to a bottom side Almeria. The Catalan Giants were simply outstanding as they showed everyone why they are not only the best in Spain but also in the world.
After a confident 5-0 home win over Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid, Barcelona continued their impressive run as they defeat Real Sociedad with five goals as well. The first goal was scored by the newly signed David Villa and then the trumpet blew. It was Andres
Iniesta who found the back of the net and later Lionel Messi scored another brace to his name. The Argentinean took his goals tally to 17, equal to that of Real Madrid’s goal scoring sensation Cristiano Ronaldo. Now Lionel Messi has scored 25 in all competitions
as he the Ballon d’Or finalist is at the top of the world. The 75th minute substitute Bojan Krkic scored the fifth goal to give his side another five goal win.
Now Barcelona and Real Madrid look to be battling for the number 1 spot as the Catalan Giants are to face the Barcelona side Espanyol in a derby game while Real Madrid are to face an out-of-form Sevilla. Both the teams are facing strong opponents this weekend.
Who can forget how Sevilla simply outclassed Real Madrid last season? However, this time with Jose Mourinho around, no one can expect the Los Blancos to suffer another loss.
