Football Update: Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspurs (Review)
SUNDERLAND
The Black Cats young centre half Phil Bardsley has insisted that Sunderland needs to fill the void left by their experience central defenders Michael Turner and Titus Bramble, who are likely to return next month after being injured last month. The duo, Michael
Turner and Titus Bramble, had formed a formidable defensive partnership for the Black Cats and their absence dearly cost Sunderland in their recent match against Wolves, which they lost by three goals to two last weekend.
Bardsley said that it was a big blow to Sunderland following the loss of their two talismanic defenders Michael and Titus. Phil Bardsley added with that pair it was more strong defence line than the present one. Bardsley also said:
“It upsets the rhythm of the team when you change the back four. But players have got to come in and stake their claim to earn a regular place in the team and perform to the levels that the two injured lads have been doing."
The Black Carts are currently seventh in the Barclays Premier League table and thanks to their high flying start; Steve Bruce and his men have earned 20 points in fifteen league matches so far.
Sunderland is unbeaten at home and their record against ‘Top Four’ of Barclays Premier League is very impressive. Sunderland shocked the world two weeks ago when they thrashed English Premier League title holders’ Chelsea by three goals at Stamford Bridge.
Moreover, they drew against Arsenal and Manchester United last month. Furthermore, they defeated Manchester City by one goals and Tottenham by three goals to two.
Sunderland will host Barclays Premier League bottom side, West Ham United for the sixteenth league match on Sunday. West Ham United has recently thrashed Manchester United by four goals in Carling Cup last Wednesday and ended United’s unbeaten streak. The
win over Manchester United would give West Ham an added confidence against Sunderland.
However, Sunderland lost their last match against Wolves in an exciting three-two encounter.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
The impact substitute defender of Tottenham Hotspurs Sebastian Bassong, who made his eighth appearance of the season in a two-one win over Liverpool last weekend, believes that his team is one of the strongest sides in Barclays Premier League. He feels honoured
to be a part of Spurs current squad, which he claims is the most talented squad in recent history.
Bassong said: "This year, we've got one of the best squads Spurs have ever had, so it's up to us now. There's a big competition in the team, which is maybe making us improve ourselves. It's a good thing. If we want to do well this year, we need a lot
of good players, and that's what we've got in the team. I've been working, I've never stopped working in training, and if the manager needs me, I'll be ready to play.”
Moreover, Harry Redknap’s Tottenham Hotspurs has already qualified for the next round of Champions League and are also leading the table which includes Inter Milan, Werder Bremen and Twente FC. Tottenham Hotspurs are currently fifth in Barclays Premier League
and will play their sixteenth league match against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s Stadium on Saturday.
