Football Update: The Biggest Moves of the summer – Sami Khedira
We saw some dramatic and spectacular transfers take place this transfer window. Some of the best players in the world changed teams and made their way across continents.
Here is a look at some more of the big transfers that took place this summer
Sami Khedira
Sami Khedira made his professional appearance as a footballer with VfB Stuttgart in the 2006-2007 season. He made his debut in October of 2006 however; it wasn’t until January of 2007, till the player signed his professional contract with the team.
Khedira made his rise to fame with the German under-21 side and the German national team. He managed to make thirty appearances in the German youth teams and even captained the side that went on to with the Under-21 European Championships.
He made the leap to join the senior team in 2009, when he played a friendly against South Africa. However, his early performances matched with his ability to go all out made him a permanent member of the team. He soon saw his name be included on the final team list that was submitted to participate on Germany’s behalf.
Khedira managed to strike some phenomenal form, but with the consistency that he showed everyone was forced to agree that the players superb performances in the World Cup weren’t just luck but down to pure talent.
The player was quite simply phenomenal for the German side; he was one of the more important parts of the finely tuned machine that was the German national team. He was playing in his naturally favoured position as a defensive midfielder and was easily one of the best on display in the World Cup at that position. He was breaking up numerous plays that the oppositions were launching against the team; in fact, he broke up the play and used his brilliant passing abilities to launch some attacks for the team.
He was there to rise up to the occasion every time the team needed it; the best example of this was in the third place play-off game between Germany and Uruguay. Khedira scored his debut World Cup goal in that game, and that goal was what helped Germany go on to win the match by three goals to two.
It was these brilliant performances that caught the eyes of the top European teams from across the continent. However, amongst those teams and managers was the newly appointed Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho. Mourinho didn’t think twice before signing the player and almost immediately after the end of the World Cup, the player was snapped up by Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee.
Khedira could prove to be the addition to the team that is needed to help construct that impenetrable defence, Mourinho likes to use. The manager in known to field a formation that has two defensive midfielders and Khedira would without a doubt be the player who will take the field and help partner Xabi Alonso on  it.
The two of the together are capable of breaking down onslaught after onslaught of attacks, which could prove to be more than crucial in games against teams like Barcelona. They are also both capable of passing the ball with precision to distances over sixty yards. If the two manage to form the partnership that Mourinho has foreseen, then in it is safe to say that the two of them could prove to be one of the most lethal midfield duos in the world.
