Football Update: Transfer News- Javi Marquez may leave for Seville,
Michel Bastos to stay in France
In a surprising turn of events, Espanyol midfielder, Javi Marquez might leave the side for Seville in the January transfer window.
The 24-year old midfielder has already attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs and Los Nervioneses coach Gregorio Manzano has been keen on the midfielder as he aims to improve the Seville squad for the second phase of the La Liga season.
Midfielder, Tiberio Guarente is very likely to miss the rest of the season due to injury and Manzano considers the Espanyol midfielder Javi Marquez as the most ideal replacement.
Marquez has been very instrumental in ‘Blanc I Blau’s’ rise to the top four in the Spanish La Liga this season.
Espanyol will be reluctant to let go of their prized asset but might be tempted by a fee in the region of at least around £6 million. The youngster fought his way to a first team spot after breaking his leg in the end of last season.
Seville is struggling in the league this season and has already lost 5 matches in all competitions.
Michel Bastos to stay in France
Meanwhile, Olympique Lyonnais player, Michel Bastos has stressed that he is 100% committed to staying with Lyon until the end of summer.
The Brazilian has been on the radar of many European clubs but he has insisted that there will be no chance of him leaving the club during the January transfer window.
Michel Bastos has seen himself become an important player for club and country after his move to Olympique Lyonnais. His performances have alerted the top European clubs but he is very happy to stay at Lyon.
He thinks that it’s a bit pre-mature to talk about his departure and says that France is his second country and suggests that for the next one or two years perhaps, he won’t be making any switch.
The former Lille player has reportedly been targeted by Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid.
The 27-year old left-back moved to Lille in 2006 and played 97 matches for the side and scored 25 times. Last season, the Brazilian, who can also operate as a left-winger, joined Olympique Lyon and has so far made 45 appearances with 12 goals.
Bastos never had a national call-up before joining Lyon and the move to Lyon was even more vital as the move earned him a place in the Brazilian national squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
