Football Update: West Ham Manager, Avram Grant wants time and patience
The manager of West Ham United, Avram Grant believes that the board and fans are wrong to doubt his managerial abilities just yet. The Israeli manager oversaw his side draw against Blackburn on Saturday in a match which ended 1-1. West Ham are currently
at the bottom of the Premier League table, in dire danger of being relegated to the Championship next year if the team do not improve upon their on-field performance. Grant took up the job at Upton Park, after Gianfranco Zola was dismissed by the board in
the summer of this year. The West Ham manager has faced a difficult time during his reign at Upton Park so far this season.
The Hammers have managed only one win from their previous eleven fixtures in the Premier League. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Portsmouth manager has been the centre of much speculation concerning his future at the Boleyn Ground. With reports stemming from the
BBC last week suggesting the manager had been given an ultimatum of either winning at least one match from the next three fixtures (one fixture already having being played against Blackburn) or being shown the door at Upton Park.
Grant let his opinion be heard concerning the management game in the Premier League and commented on owners of clubs, who did not have a football background. He said that the people who did not have an in depth knowledge of football could not understand
that a team’s performance does not automatically improve to a sudden switching of managers.
“Since people came in who didn't have a football background, they think they can push a button and everything comes good,” explained the Israeli. He described the current situation of being a manager in the Premier League as a “mad job” and elaborated
by saying he found the duty exciting yet “not good all the time.”
He stated that his team and himself need time and patience in order to overcome the existing problems at the club and improve their on field performance. He told the press that he feels the right way to ingrain confidence in his squad and produce worthy
results from fixtures is to seek inspiration from those teams who have built themselves up over time through retaining the services of a manager for long periods.
He gave the example of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, who in his first year did not suddenly improve the Gunners’ performance, instead produced noteworthy results after his maiden year in charge. He mentioned Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson, who has now
been named the club’s longest serving manager, and how he gradually built up his team and produced fantastic results over a prolonged period of time. Grant believes that the elements of time and patience are vital and called for West Ham to overcome their
slump in form, step by step.
Concerning the reports that Grant was given an ultimatum, the West Ham boss has denied receiving any such statement from his current employers and has refuted claims that he is to be sacked if unable to produce substantial results in the next three (now
two) matches. The Israeli said that he frequently is in contact with the club’s board members but this matter was not brought up at any of their recent conferences.
The managerial position at West Ham is a hotly speculated topic, after Newcastle sacked their former manager Chris Hughton and last week Blackburn showed former manager Sam Allardyce the door, while both clubs still not falling prey to the relegation zone.
Grant’s club are wallowing at the bottom and critics suggest that if the more successful managers have been dismissed then it simply is a matter of time before the former Portsmouth boss is relieved of his services at Upton Park. Furthermore, the availability
of recently dismissed managers such as Sam Allardyce and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Hughton fuel the rumours linked to Grant’s possible dismissal.
