Football Update: What Would Be Valencia’s Future In La Liga
Valencia is the only club in La Liga that challenged the supremacy of Real Madrid and Barcelona, in this decade. They won two league titles and a UEFA Cup, under the influence of Rafael Banitez. In addition, during this time, they were able to get a hold of some good Spanish players, including David Villa and David Silva. Both these players played an extremely crucial part in the success of the club, especially Villa, who was their main goal-scorer. David Silva provided the width in the team, along with Joaquin, and was a significant part of their attack. In addition, the team was strengthened after the signing of the Serbian striker, Zigic, who provided the much needed aerial ability because of his extra-ordinary height.
However, the club was facing a serious financial crisis, due to which they were unable to even pay the full wages to their players. In such a situation, it is always hard to keep the world-class players, who demand very high wages for their exceptional services. Nevertheless, the duo, Villa and Silva, did not leave the club last year, despite the speculations. They remained in Valencia and helped the club in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. After the success last year, it was imminent that these players would not stay in the club for a long period. Therefore, Villa left the team for Barcelona, while Silva joined Manchester City. Recently, Nikola Zigic has been signed by Birmingham, but this is not a great loss, as the striker proved to be useless in Valencia.
On the other hand, the loss of the players like Villa and Silva would be grave for Valencia. These players are known for their exceptional qualities, especially the match-winning quality. David Villa is, probably, the best striker in the World, who has shown his goal-scoring skills on a number of fronts. He was the top scorer in Euro 2008 and also in the World Cup 2010, thus, helping his National side to win the trophies. He was also the top scorer in La Liga, in 2008-2009 Season, while he contributed many goals in other seasons, as well.
David Silva is also an exceptional player, who has contributed a lot of goals and assists to his team. He was also the part of the Spanish World Cup winning squad, which speaks a lot about the player’s brilliance. His partnership with Villa, in the attack, won many matches for Valencia. This pair was definitely the most impressive duo, for the club, for a very long time.
Now, Valencia is in big trouble. Their two biggest players have left, leaving behind a vacuum that cannot be filled easily. There are actually not many players, in the World, who can fill in the shoes of these two superstars. Therefore, finding a replacement within Valencia’s ranks would be a difficult task for the manager. Also, the team has qualified for the Champions League, but they lack the quality to pose a challenge at the biggest stage in European Club Football.
There are however, a few players on which the manager can rely. The most important player for Valencia, during the next season, would be the 25 years old forward, Roberto Soldado. Soldado has been signed from another Spanish club, Getafe, and is known for his goal-scoring skills. In the last season, he scored 20 goals in 31 games, for his club. Right now, he seems to be the best forward in the Valencia’s ranks.
The 22 year old youngster, Juan Manuel Mata, is another option for Valencia. Mata has got some good qualities, due to which he was also a part of Spanish World Cup team but, he is still young and has a lot of room for improvement. The last season was not good enough for the forward, as he scored only 9 goals in 35 games for Valencia.
Apart from these two players, other players that must play a part in Valencia’s campaign in the next season are, Carlos Marchena, Joaquin, Ever Banega and David Albelda. The future is not bright for Valencia, but they can still retain their spot in the top four. However, it would take a lot from the remaining players in the squad, while the coaching abilities of Unai Emery would also be tested.
