Football World Cup : Capello don't blame me Wayne Rooney's Problem is in his Head

Rooney’s contribution in this year World Cup is the most dreadful aspect of English performance thus far. Despite being awarded the PFA Players' Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year in 2009–10. The 24-year English striker was yet again unable to end his scoring drought that goes back six games to a group encounter with Croatia at Euro 2004.

In their second consecutive draw against Algeria in Cape Town, which was also a goalless match, saw the most disappointing touches by the Wayne Rooney. Not only did he fail to score but at the same time, his performance was below par in the game, in which he made several unforced errors. England’s most distinguished and cherished player in this World Cup was booed by the fans at the end of match, who are disappointed with his performance.

It is beyond any doubt that Wayne Rooney has still not gotten into the enthusiasm of the tournament and is yet to show a wining performance for the English team. The question everyone is asking is how come the player is in such bad touch after a huge success with Manchester United last season. His injury in the quarter-final of the Champions League saw him out of training for several weeks and is probably the main cause of the problems currently faced by him.

Rooney had a marvellous season with Manchester United and literally, he alone created some magical moments for the English Club. Although the team couldn’t win any trophy, still he was awarded with the honour of being ‘Best Player of EPL’. He did bag many goals and was second highest scorer of the league. His performance was out of ordinary for the Manchester United, who were facing a difficult time after their star player Christiana Ronaldo left for Real Madrid.

Rooney showed that he can be trusted upon and he alone can win crucial matches. His performance earned him the respect of all the English fans that were behind him to do the same magic for the national team. With all that support, a player needs, it was easy for him to be at his best. Among the elites of this year’s tournament, he was the only player who was praised all around and was thought to be the most successful player of the World Cup. His performances were not even at satisfactory level and it should be immediately analyzed what is causing the English star to be such a failure. If the matter is not resolved soon and he fails to get back in form, it will become impossible for England to even go into the next round. Don’t forget that the English team was favourites to win before the tournament started.

Fabio Capello thinks the problem lies in the head of the player and is not related to his fitness level. Capello has supported Rooney's personal point of view that he is in good health and instead suggested that there may be mental issues at play. Capello has clearly suggested that it’s up to the striker himself to come back in the form and has forced himself out of any blame.

The issue at the hand is so immense that Capello comments are seriously doubtful. Rooney might be having a problem in his head but it is not his first time in national shirts and neither is it the first time he is asked to perform under pressure. The problem lies else where and that is definitely, what Capello has to look for before it’s too late to amend. He must immediately drop Heskey and add someone in the midfield, who can feed more and more balls to the English striker. Another option is to play Defoe along with Rooney, as the Hotspurs talented striker also has lot many goals in his last season. Whatever it may take, Capello should take the blame on himself if he wants any improvement, otherwise it is all over for the potential winners.
