  1. If you don't have time to buy some boots, you can use your football cleats IF you remove the front stud.  I had to do that for fall season at college (new to rugby, couldn't afford boots in the fall).

If you have the money, I suggest buying boots ruggers.com soon.  They ship extremely quickly and deliver a good product.  BUT, don't order any boots until you know what position you're playing.  For the most part, you'll want to buy boots with 4 front studs if you're a back (soccer shoes work fine) or boots with 6 front studs if you're a forward.  Talk to your coaches and see what they suggest.  They tend to have a good idea of what will/won't work.

  2. Probably not.  In rugby we're not allowed to wear boots (that's what we call them) with that stud in the front of the sole.  Law 4 covers players equipment...in there it states, "The wearing of a single stud at the toe of the boot is prohibited".

If your football cleats don't have a single stud then you may be ok but most football cleats, if I remember correctly, do.

Check out worldrugbyshop.com, rugbygear.com, ruggers.com, etc.  You can usually find a pretty decent pair of starter boots for $35 - 40 somewhere.

Good luck!  Rugby is a great game...I think you'll find the camaraderie between teammates, and the opposition, different than anything you've experienced before.
