i play o line and we do drills where we get in 3 point stance head to head like in games and when the coach says hut we hit each other how do i take him to the ground?

  1. This is a variation on the "Oklahoma" drill started by Bud Wilkens on his undefeated teams.

    1. Erupt into your opponent.

    2. Keep your legs moving throughout the entire hit.  A lot of people have a bad habit of stopinng the legs when contact is initiated.

    3. Hit with the shoulders, but keep the forearms and hands in play to deliver a forearm shiver / shock wave to your opponent at the same exact time you're hitting him with your shoulders. If he is too high, you win.  If he is too low, pancake him into the ground.  If his trajectory is direct, erupt into him with shoulders/forearms and drive through him in the same manner it feels when you're driving the blocking sled.  If you stay in contact with his core, you'll win the confrontation.  The more you do this, the more you'll be able to instantly calibrate his center of gravity and make it your exact target area.  This maximizes your leverage.  Just as in Judo, it's more about crisp, well-centered technique than it is about size, weight, etc.

  3. OK. I am a high school coach. First your stance. Start with your feet shoulder width apart with your right foot(If you have your right hand down) staggerd about 4-6 inches back. Put 60% of your weight on your hand. Off hand should be resting on your left leg ready to fire.

    On "hut" step fowrd 6-8 INCHES with your back foot(right) at the same time keep your elbows in and hands down by your side like you are reaching for your guns in a holster.

    Second step a little bigger then first and EXPLODE your hand up. Aim for the numbers. keep your thumbs up and the rest of your fingers aiming outside. Grab the opponent by the shoulder pads, and push them up in his neck so he cant see or breathe.

    Stay low and use SHRT choppy steps to move him. It should be easy because you are choking him with his own pads.

    Remember keep you hands and elbows in. As soon as you grab the outside or your elbows go out. you will be called for holding.

    Also, you have to be qiuck with your hands that is why a lot of linemen take Martial Arts or boxing classes

    or... you can ask your coach which would probally be your best bet!

  5. if your on the o line you should not be taking anyone down

  6. stay low, chop your feet, dont make long strides, and wrap around his upper legs, and just go full throttle. he'll go down every time. remember, the lowest man always wins

  7. You need to get lower then the deffensive line and drive your feet until they cry like a little girls.
