  1. its played with the foot and a  ball hence its called football, how would the Yanks like it if we called American football (played with hands) sh*t RUGBY.

  2. I take it that you refer to Association Football, known as Togga where I was brought up, as opposed to Rugby Football which was played in outlandish places such as Wigan Warrington ana St Helen's and known as League or the posh version played by the Public schools. You see there are all sorts of versions of the game including Australian Football which is a game of it's own. I honestly see no problem and do not understand your stance.

  3. Oh its just a name to clarify to some  what sort of football you are talking about.   In UK     two sorts,   Rugby football,   Now split into union and league,   and association football,  soccer for short.  America did not come into this  at that time at all.   But American football,  an offshoot of rugby,  is the sport known all over the States as football.  Far more popular than our soccer football,   So again  they use the soccer word  to differentiate...   Yes here in UK  the word  football means  soccer

  4. it's just you....

  5. Yes!I agree with you. Here in Argentina we call it "football" but as USA is always "everywhere " there is a trend of calling it "soccer" not to confuse the so called"Americans"(they stole the name of a whole continent for them!)I am sick of this.Really.

  6. American football* has more similarities to our rugby than football(soccer). Which is no big surprise as both come from the much earlier ball games*.

That said, you are right! Football is football! Soccer is just another way of saying so!

    Joke alert.

I hate what the Americans have done to the English language, it really sucks!

  7. in America it football in Europe Africa and south america its fussball(germany soccer) or football(soccer) but in china its like hu kula la ba(soccer)

  8. I agree, it completly winds me up when ever i gotta type soccer in

Who plays soccer anyway???? the americans, thats all...the rest of the world play proper football.

and american football for a national sport! WHIMPS!!! i wanna see them play the proper game of rugby, then maybe they can go and name new sports. arrgg

got me all angry then lmao

  9. The english invented the word so what's the problem? Also, one of the biggest football programmes on english tv is called Soccer am....So again....What's the problem????????

  10. The word Soccer actually originated in England at Rugby School (which is the place where the game of Rugby is named after) to differentiate it for "Rugger".

The International organisation for football is FIFA, this stands for  Fédération Internationale de Football Association, note the last two words.

The six regional confederations - AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA all have the letter F in their names and this always stands for Football (Or Fútbol in S. America as their first langauge is Spanish).

Only America and Australia use Soccer everywhere else it is football, if you use the word football here in the UK everyone knows what you mean. Soccer is known but rarely used.

American football is just rugby with kevlar armour.

  11. Well here in Ireland we have to call it soccer because it would cause a lot of confusion with gaelic football!

  12. lollollol

  13. Futball in spanish countries is soccer. Football is american football. Soccer is american soccer. So why they call is Football and put soccer beside it idk. it should be Futball with soccer beside it.

  14. It's their way of distinguishing Football from American Football.

Which doesn't make any sense anyway because America Football doesn't even use the feet to a large degree!

  15. It's Football. Only 3 countries officially use the term "Soccer", namely: USA, Australia, Canada.

  16. Drives me nuts as well 1st off they rarely use their feet in American football & to me it's a soft way of rugby. The REAL football is the one played in europe.

  17. Yes we all know that it's called football but our American friends get a bit confused at times. I just get annoyed when they insist on telling us that it's called soccer, when we invented the modern game called ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL.

To stop confusion we should start calling the American game gridiron or men in tights. I wonder if that would annoy the Americans?

  18. soccer was created by the english to distinguish between football and rugby it stems from the word association, so all the yanks are saying is association football but a shortened version, why people get annoyed about is stupid in rugby they still call it rugby football sometimes.

to call the nfl,  gridiron is stupid also gridiron refers to the pitch and as for men in tights those guys are a lot tougher than the overpaid pansies that play football, if you want a dig at anyone blame the english for creating association football.
