The Anfield Cat, as he is more commonly referred to, is looking for a new home confirm Liverpool Football Club’s official website.
Every so often the world of football produces some of the greatest stars in the world. Yet, while the star in question does not have the same level of fame as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734, he has caught the attention of nearly everyone who watches the Barclays Premier League.
We are of course talking about the cat that somehow found its way onto the pitch during Liverpool’s home match against London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.
The grey and white tabby cat, who the stadium’s staff have affectionately named ‘Shankly’ in honour of the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager, who instilled the values in the club that it still adheres to till day, made its way onto the field of play and took its time as it ran from one end of the pitch to the other.
The Anfield faithful cheered the surprise appearance, which had the match stopped as everyone waited for it to make its way off the pitch. A few moments later one of the ground staff had ‘Shankly’ in his grasp and he was carried off the field.
It later turned out that the cat was a stray cat with no place to call its home. A fact that Liverpool want to change as they put it up for adoption.
The cat has been taken in by the Freshfield Animal Rescue Centre, who with the help of Liverpool football club are looking to find a warm and loving home for, what is perhaps, the most famous cat in the footballing world at the moment.
According to one of the cattery assistants at the FARC, Kathryn Gibbs, Shankly is, “a lovely cat, he’s super-friendly. He’s not had a home to call his own in the past but he’s well-fed and in good care at the rescue centre.”
She continued, “He is a cheeky character as well – he was probably wondering what everyone was doing sitting in his bathroom!”
As for how he got his name, well Dave Callender who works at the rescue centre thought, “it would be a good idea if he was named after the great Bill Shankly and everyone here agreed it was fitting.”
