The highly rated Italian manager Roberto Mancini has already splashed 60 million pounds to sign quality players which include David Silva, Jerome Boateng and Yaya Toure. All these players are well established performers in their respective positions, which make City a strong contender in the Premier League.

He added that City now has the support and backing to tackle any opponent, and would contend for the title. City play Liverpool next, and Adebayour claimed that if they get the preferred results in both the matches, it would be an automatic statement to the other big clubs that City are not to be taken lightly and are going to be the title contenders. He admitted that for City to win the title, the date and timings of the fixtures shouldn’t be important, and they just need to try and win every match. He added that he was just okay with finishing 5th last season, and now aim for a minimum top three.
In other news, heavy weights Real Madrid have officially stated that they are to end the hunt for Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard, claiming the midfielder to be too old. Jose Mourinho took over as Real Madrid boss last season, he is known to be a huge admirer of the midfielder and already tried to lure Gerrard away from Anfield, while he was coaching Chelsea. Gerrard, now 30, has been hugely linked of a move away from his boyhood club Liverpool, after the deteriorating financial positions of Liverpool, and the lack of silverware. Any player reaching such a age would want to win trophies and have success on the pitch, and with the arrival of Mourinho at the Madrid, Gerrard would’ve been hoping to find asylum in Spain.
However, the Spanish giants have ended the pursuit of the England Captain, who don’t fancy the 30 year due to his age. The transfer consultant Ernesto Bronzetti confirmed that Brazil star Kaka is to remain with the club, while club President Florentino Perez is not interested in the 30 year old, as he may not give them the value needed. Liverpool has reportedly asked for 70 million Euros for their captain, which, in reality, is too much for the Liverpool midfielder.
Steven Gerrard captained his side into the World Cup, which was England’s most disappointing World Cup in history. Gerrard scored the first goal for England, but had a distressed time in South Africa. England drew their first two matches, while winning the third to book a place into the Round Of 16. They met Germany there, and lost 4-1 in one of the most humiliating defeats of their illustrious history. Gerrard had a troubled season at Anfield, being injured in 5 matches for his side. He could only score 12 goals in 46 appearances, which is disappointing in comparison to last 08/09 season’s 24 goals. Liverpool finished 7th in the league, which would mean that they will not play in the Champions League this season. This is bad news for a classy player like Gerrard, who is nearing his retirement as he has reached the age of 30.
