Football news - Didier Drogba believes Chelsea create fear in their opponents minds
Chelsea star striker Didier Drogba has said that their next opponents Stoke City have a great reason to fear the champions. Chelsea started the new season in fantastic fashion knocking in 12 goals in 2 games. The first game saw them explode against West Brom away from home, and in the 2nd game it was Wigan Athletic that was on the receiving end of another 6 nil bashing.
Didier Drogba scored a hat trick in the opening game, he said that the new season has started with a bang and there is no reason why it cannot carry on like that. The African striker said that the intimidating style of football by the blues creates a sense of fear in their opponents, and that gives them the mental edge over them. Drogba said that the team has developed an excellent system, he added that the team works extra hard on the training ground and they practice hundreds and thousands of moves over and over again. And this is what makes it come out automatically on the pitch. He went on to say that when the team is in a match, people watching may think that it is pretty simple to do what we do. But actually a lot of hard work and numerous hours go into that.
Drogba said that when Ancelotti came to Chelsea people said that he is an Italian manager, and they are typically defensive. He said that the way Chelsea have been playing, it can be called anything but defensive.
Stoke City have not had any points this season from the first 2 matches, and visiting Stamford Bridge may not be the best place for them to look for anything. The last time these 2 teams met Chelsea scored 7 past them. So not the best last memory to take to the big match on Saturday.
Drogba said that Stoke may have redemption on their mind this weekend, and may try and come at them. He added that if they try and play attacking football it would play right into their hands.
The Ivory Coast captain said that the Premier League has teams that offer all kinds of challenges, and it is never the same for more than 2 weeks. He said that having 12 goals in 2 games is amazing, but he knows that it’s not going to stay like this for the rest of the season. Drogba said this does not mean that Chelsea is going to hold back or stop playing the ultra attacking style of football, but they would have to sometime fight it out for a win rather than strolling past teams. And the whole team is prepared for that.
Drogba said that when Manchester United beat them in the community shield, people had started asking questions. He went on to say that media quickly jumps the gun after such results, but hoped that the first 2 matches of the season would have silenced their critics for now.
The 6 foot 3 inch front man said that, ever since he came to Chelsea he knew that the club had big targets. First was to win the premier league and 2nd one was to win the champions league. Premier League he said has been won thrice but champion’s league has still eluded them.
Didider Drogba said that this season they have made it their biggest priority, he added that even though defending the Premier league title remains their primary concern but Europe is something they want more than anything.
Drogba reflected back on the champions’ league final loss to Manchester United in 2008. He said that losing on Penalties was unfortunate, that is the way it is sometimes but this season they would make sure they do not rely on luck and get the job done in normal time.
