Football news: Dimitar Berbatov admits his price tag is a curse for his performances (Part 2)
The striker continued that in the end of it all, he just needs to relax and perform at the highest level and his ability and talent has led him to play for the biggest club on the planet. No one can take that away from him, and all he wants now is to establish
himself as the club’s best. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson also admitted that he insisted Berbatov to ignore the remarks of critics and media, and should be working hard on the pitch. Berba’s doubts were never doubted by his fellow teammates, and many labelled
him to be the best player with the ball at his feet.
Ignoring the comments may well be easier said than done and owing to Berba’s sensitivity and compassion, it took him long to ignore what the media states about him. The Bulgarian can be linked to another Manchester United player, Eric Cantona. The player
was not a goal scorer but concentrated on the overall team performances. Yet, Cantona was a big match player and contributed whenever needed.
Berbatov explained that he had pleasure watching himself making assists for his teammates. For example, when former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo stated he wanted to “get back to his hotel room and watch it again on DVD", he referred to his 40-yard
unbelievable strike against Porto FC in the UEFA Champions league. Likewise, Berbatov’s impressive cut in to dodge James Collins and set up Ronaldo for a simple tap-in against West Ham the same season gave him the similar pleasure.
Berbatov stated that he watched that assist at his home and still has it fresh in his memory. He declared himself to be the luckiest man on the planet for doing such a move and doing so gave him satisfaction beyond measures. Owing to this selflessness, Berbatov’s
game is a mixed blend of class, goal-scoring and assist-making, which makes him stand out from the ordinary striker.  Like the great Cantona himself, Berbatov considers the pitch as being a place to express his feelings and considered playing to be an art
rather than a sport.
"I am a striker. People expect me to score many goals, “But sometimes the difficult pass, the pass no-one else can see, when you make it happen, it is more important than scoring the goal.It gives you a bigger feeling. I have always like to play with the
ball. You have some strikers who wait for one chance in the whole of the game. I am not like this. Obviously there are games when you stand around doing nothing all game and in the end, the ball hits your knee and goes in the net”, claimed the 29-year-old
Bulgarian.
The player admitted that having the ball at his feet to craft a breath-taking move would making him happier than having aimless strikes on goal.  Berbatov added that he loved organising the play and make things happen. Doing that makes him feel alive and
that defines his style of play. For the Bulgarian, he wanted to be a good footballer and not just a goal-scorer and vowed to continue that throughout his remaining career.
