Tottenham Hotspurs hat-trick hero Peter Crouch managed to take the North London club into the group stages of the UEFA Champions league. The player was unstoppable when Spurs took Young Boys at home and managed to score almost at will. Crouch’s impressive performance made him earn the match ball and the player then called out Europe’s elite clubs to face them in the UEFA Champions league.
Crouch’s three goals followed by another by Jermain Defoe gave Young Boys no chance to recover as Spurs thwarted the Swiss runner-ups to a 6-3 aggregate win. The four goals enabled emphatic celebrations from the home crowd, whose bad memories of Spurs defeat at Bern last week were completely wiped out. The 6 feet 7 inch player was so delighted by his club’s performance that he was unconcerned of what opposition he gets in the UEFA Champions league in September. While talking to ITV 1, Crouch claimed that the win is just unexplainable, the team played well overall and the Spurs have deservingly reached the group stages of Champions League football. The player then went on to call out the biggest clubs in football, in the form of Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
"That's why we worked so hard last season. We want massive games. We want Real Madrid and Inter Milan,” claimed the 29-year-old English International. Crouch added that no one ever knows how good they actually are still you play against the best. He stated that playing against Young Boys in front of the home crowd brought the best out of him. Jermaine Defoe, who postponed his surgery just to feature in this contest was extremely delighted by Spurs going through to the next round. The England International claimed that all the hard work they put through last season has finally paid off, and qualifying for the tournament meant the world to the entire squad. Defoe couldn’t keep his emotions and claimed that for Spurs it was all about playing in the UEFA Champions league and believes that his side is ready to play against Europe’s elite.
Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp couldn’t believe his eyes and was happy to living the dream with Tottenham Hotspurs. Having joined the club in 2008, it would be Redknapp’s debut journey into the Europe’s elite competition.
The manager claimed that it was fantastic to qualify and that it has been a long time since the Spurs have played in Europe’s top league. Redknapp stated that he doesn’t think he would sign new players, even though people label him as a manager who keeps on signing new players. The manager added that he always wants a squad which is complete and in no need to sign new players. The manager thus claimed that he wouldn’t be pushing the chairman to splash the cash to buy new player. However, Redknapp stated that unless he thinks he needs new player to bolster the squad, he may well sit tight.
Jermaine Defoe is expected to undergo surgery next week, as confirmed by manager Harry Redknapp. The manager claimed that yesterday, the player wanted to have the operation. The manager added that Defoe has been booked for an appointment due this week but if there are any changes in plans, he is unaware of them.
