Football news: Robinho set to be benched yet again by AC Milan
According to the latest media reports in Italy, new AC Milan signing Robinho is set to be benched again. Massimiliano Allegri is apparently far from satisfied with the forward’s physical condition. Robinho was acquired by AC Milan at the start of the season
from Barclays Premier League for a reported fee of 22 million pounds. The striker was far from happy at Eastlands, as he got little first team football under his belt.
Upon his arrival in Milan, the striker was struggling for fitness and the latest reports suggest Robinho has improved little. The latest reports are in contradiction with earlier news which suggested Robinho would start for Milan on the right wing position.
Robinho is the only natural replacement to Pato, but his lack of match fitness has led Milan to start Kevin-Prince Boateng in the right.
Milan is set to play CFC Genoa tomorrow at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and Allegri must get the maximum points. Inter Milan already leads the table by five points just 4 rounds in to the league and Milan cannot afford any more slipups.
But different newspapers in Italy are posting conflicting reports regarding the mercurial forward’s first team chances. Some of the reports suggest Allegri might play the forward after all. Milan is set to play three matches in the next seven days, prompting
the coach to rest Seedorf and Pirlo. Milan Face Genoa, Ajax Amsterdam and Parma over the next seven days of hectic football. In such a case, Boateng will move in to a centre midfield position, creating a starting birth for former Manchester City player.
Milan President Silvio Berlusconi was criticized for signing the forward, when pundits felt the player wasn’t needed at the club. Furthermore, an offensive ‘fantastic four’ of Ibrahimovic, Pato, Ronaldinho and Robinho can only be played in a fantasy league,
as such a squad selection will render the Milan team highly unbalanced. Even if Robinho plays in tomorrow’s game, the first team chances of the forward will be thrown in to further cloud once Alexandre Pato makes his return from his injury.
Ibrahimovic and Robinho left their respective clubs at the start of the season, as they feared for their first team chances. Allegri cannot field all of his talismans together in a 4-3-3; it looks like Allegri now has a huge task at hand keeping all the
prodigiously talented forwards happy.
