in football, when does a team get to do a "throw-in"?

i don't kno anything about football so plz help....i need it for p.e.

ive played and watched football all my 23 years and just asked a co-worker who has done the same we have never heard of a "throw-in"

edit: do you mean football as in soccer or American football, d**n Americans making their own rules wait i live in Cali...?

still not sure what your coach means but after the 3rd down a team can punt, kick a field goal, or go for it on 4th; after going for it on 4th they either get a 1st down and continue or turn over the ball and the other team takes possession if there was no score, after a score the team that scored kicks off to the other team

sorry i couldnt be of more help but i just dont know what a throw in is

maybe your coach means throw off instead of kick off but is saying throw-in
