Football recap: Birmingham City 1 - Manchester United 1
In the last game of the English Barclay’s Premier League Tuesday’s night fixture, Manchester United could not hold their lead till the end of the game, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lee-c21860 Bowyer’s late goal for Birmingham City leveled the score.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 was again the scorer for the Manchester United, taking him to the 15 goals mark for the season. The Bulgarian scored in the 58th minute with a low shot past Foster, into the corner of the net. It’s the Bulgarian’s eighth goal
in the last three matches he has played. Birmingham’s midfielder Lee David Bowyer proved his guts in the game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, scoring the winner last month. Last evening, he again scored the equalizer for Birmingham City that resulted in a drawn game in the
89th minute, snatching away the victory from the “red devils”.
Manchester United reached the first position in the Barclay’s Premier League table, after this draw, with two games in hand. They are sharing the points with Manchester City, who are in the second position having played two games more. Manchester United
is still unbeaten in the season and have lost only two of 36 Barclay’s Premier League games, in the year 2010. On the other hand, Arsenal could overtake this lead if they win their next fixture at Wigan Atheletic, with a goal difference. Sir Alex Ferguson’s
side was not at their best but still had much confidence to make the Birmingham City’s manager Alex McLeish feel troubled in their late show. Sir Alex Ferguson commented at the end of the match,
“I think it’s terribly harsh. I think we outplayed them in the second half and we didn’t deserve that. But football is a funny game. It’s a tight League. It’s a difficult place to come here; every team that comes here has a difficult game. I think we deserved
to win the game. We were the better team, but maybe we should have finished them off after we went 1-0 up. There were a number of times we counterattacked, but we needed more care in our finishing pass and finishing shot. It was just one of those days.”
Berbatov made any early run in to the Birmingham City red zone but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Larsson-c32733 didn’t let him finish, being alerted of the situation. Larsson then showed his attacking ability to crush the Red Devils at their home ground with an inviting cross from
the right side. However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736, desperate to score a goal for his club, also tried his luck from 25 yards out but his shot went a couple of yards off,
of the target. Anderson then again gifted a beautiful pass to Rooney after cutting http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ben-Foster-c7445. United were almost there to break the deadlock in the 18th
minute of play, as Anderson released the ball to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985. The cross almost deceived Ben Foster but still he managed to put his fingers on the ball and sent it in the wrong direction. The first half ended in favor of the Red Devils but they just couldn’t
make it one, on the score sheet.
Birmingham City started their second half in a positive fashion. But Berbatov scored in the 58th minute, giving a lead to his team. The Bulgarian almost added a second goal just two minutes later but the dive of Foster saved it going inside the
post. There were a couple of changes from both sides. Foster saved many attempts on goal but there was still time for a twist in the end. Just a minute before the stoppage time, Bowyer rescued a point for Birmingham City when a deep cross from Johnson was
helped on by Zigic. The ending scores were a 1-1 draw. Birmingham City’s manager Alex Mcleish commented,
“My players never fail to amaze me at times and again they have come up trumps. I felt we tamed United to a certain degree. They had a lot of possession but never really penetrated us. I thought our performance was excellent and sometimes you don’t get the
result but tonight they got their reward for their excellent concentration and terrific display. There is obviously a psychological aspect when you go into the bottom three and other games are played before you play. Then you’re going against the potential
champions of the Premier League but we challenged the players before the game. They have good character and responded.”
