6. Arsenal FC - 20.3 million
Barclays Premier League outfit Arsenal FC ranks sixth on the list of clubs in the top 20 with 20.3 million fans. Despite the club failing to land any sort of silverware for the past five seasons, Arsene Wenger’s men have managed to hang on to sixth place.
It seems the beautiful brand of football played by the Gunners in continental is adored not just by the North Londoners. If Gunners manage to win a major title in the coming years, their following is sure to go soaring just like the gate receipts from the
new Emirates stadium.
7. AC Milan - 18.4 million
The fallen European giants rank seventh in the list with a modest 18.4 million European followers. AC Milan are the second most popular club in Italy after Juventus and much of the following comes from the peninsula. Rossoneri have failed to win a trophy
since the Kaka inspired Champions League triumph over Liverpool in 2007 and the dry spell has taken its toll. AC Milan continues to drop UEFA coefficient points along with the following during these years of underachievement. However, with Davioli atop the
Serie A charts at the moment and looking like a well oiled unit once more, the club will regain some followers the next year.
8. Inter Milan - 17.5 million
Where Rossoneri have suffered from underachievement and mediocrity the last couple of years, city rivals Inter Milan have been the opposite. Nerazzuri have won five consecutive Serie A titles and have established a monopoly other clubs are finding hard breaking.
Under the guidance of ‘already legendary’ Jose Mourinho, the club won successive Serie A titles as well as the Champions League. On European front, everything belonged to Inter Milan and Jose Mourinho as the club won the elusive big eared trophy after a 46-year
dry spell. The Nerazzuri are followed by 17.5 million fans across Europe.
9. Liverpool FC - 16.4 million
The Anfield based outfit continues to drop followers like confetti over the years of under achievement but still retains a spot in the top 10 with 16.4 million fans. Liverpool’s last piece of Silverware came back in 2005 when the Reds mounted a historic
come back from 3 – 0 down at half time to defeat AC Milan on penalties. The wounds of Istanbul are still fresh in Rossoneri minds while Liverpool continues to rejoice. However, the club will have to find the winning ways if they are to improve on their ninth
spot in the charts.
10. Juventus FC - 13.1 million
The Turin Giants, the Old Lady or the Bianconeri as they are called, Juventus FC completes the top 10 most followed clubs with 13.1 million followers across Europe. Bianconeri are the most successful club on the domestic front with 27 Serie A titles excluding
the two Scudetti that were revoked over Calciopoli scandal. The club tasted its last European success back in 1996 when a Marcelo Lippi led Juventus defeated Ajax Amsterdam on penalties following a 1 – 1 stalemate during regulation and extra time.
