Football technology?

what technology is used to create the lines of scrimmage and the yardage gains and such? i would think it would be simple superimposition but the line of scrimmage, for example, appears as if it is painted on the field because the players cross the yellow line as if its underneath them

are there sensors on the field?

it cant be one of those pen things that they use to trace teh plays

um, this section is about football(soccer) not american football but, the technology is the same for soccer free kicks and stuff. It really is just superimposed on the screen on the fly, but im pretty sure they have a program to distinguish between grass and player. Even photoshop can do that. After that, its pretty easy to use an algorithm to put the lines under the players but over the field.
