I'm a going to play football for the first time at my highschool this year, but I don't know any of the terms really. I just like to catch the ball and hit people. I'm going to play wide receiver and defensive back, so if you could tell me some things to know for those positions, I would really appreciate it. Things that come to mind are "slant route" "post route" etc. I just don't really know what anything is, and I think it would be good to know before I get put on the field.

  2. it's more of understanding defensive terms.  when you are running your route, you need to recognize whether the defense is playing zone or man, while keeping your eyes on your QB.  if playing a zone, you may find a gap in the defense giving your QB an easy pass.  you also need to recognize press coverage from normal coverage.  if in press coverage, your QB may audible you on a hot route to go deep.  that depends upon what your coach allows your QB to do at the line of scrimmage.  other than that, it is knowing what your QB is saying when changing the play at the line of scrimmage and understanding the playbook.  Good Luck!

  3. Slant

    Out

    In

    Button Hook

    Fly

    Hitch

    Post

    Post Corner

  4. I play centre for my high school and I am entering Grade 11. I can't tell you much about playing Wide Receiver, but, I can tell you not to worry, your coaches will explain everything. Just keep up a positive attitude (like it sounds you do), remember there is no such thing as a stupid question. Never be scared to ask a question, injuries happen in contact football when people don't ask questions. Your team will have their own offensive and defensive systems, which you will learn all about.

Also if you want to learn more about football, seriously, play football video games. Madden 09 is great...... Last year I knew nothing in June, by August I had no problem.....

Keep your head up and get ready to hit people and get hit and always be positive and try not to be critical of others.
