The player was only one of the four City stars who were in the national side, alongside goal keeper Joe Hart, midfielder Gareth Barry and scoring impact substitute, Adam Johnson. The player had however warned the side for their tough match against Switzerland, as the Swiss was able to defeat eventual World Champions Spain in the World Cup 2010 Group stages. Nonetheless, Switzerland proved to be a walk in the park and England eased through their Euro 2012 qualifiying stages just like they did for the World Cup. The player claimed that there still was a long way to go and they face some tough opposition in their qualifying campaign. The former Aston Villa man, however, stated that the Three Lions have now gotten off to a flying start and it is only a matter of consistency and progressing together as a team.
