Football update: Real Madrid to improve, Sergio Ramos
Arguably the most star studded club on the planet, Real Madrid has yet to hit their top form under treble winner former Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho. The side even has a star studded manager in Mourinho, who is a two-time treble winning coach with Porto
and Inter Milan. Mourinho also has an unbeaten home record with all of his clubs, which on 21st September 2010, was 138 league games unbeaten at home.
Yet Real Madrid has not been able to prove their money’s worth but may well make a difference with arch Rivals Barcelona this weekend, when they would travel to a bottom half side Levante. Barcelona, who would be without Lionel Messi, would be travelling
to a 6th side in Athletic Bilbao. Under Mourinho, the side has already gained 10 points from their opening four games so far in the La Liga and are currently on top of the table, owing to their 3-0 victory against Espanyol on Tuesday. That win has
made them top the ranking of Primera Division.
Even with three wins and a draw by the Los Blancos, fans of the club are not at all happy with the team’s performances and expect much more from a squad whose substitute bench is even full of stars. On that topic, full back Sergio Ramos has insisted that
the side is working on their top level but has asked for patience from the Madridistas.
"We are picking up points and showing we are a consistent team, which at this stage of the season are the most important things. We want to continue improving and give a better image of ourselves to the fans, and for that we are working hard every day. We
are getting better", claimed the 24-year-old full back. Such claims by the World Cup winning player would be bad news for Levante, who has yet to make their footings following their promotion to the top flight this summer. The club has so far lost all of their
opening games so far, and has conceded 10 goals thus far. They managed to register their first win of the season on Thursday, when they hung on their one goal lead throughout the game to gain all three points against Almeria. Nonetheless, nothing but a win
can be expected from Real Madrid, which would further bolster their position as top of the table in the La Liga.
On the other hand, defending Champions Barcelona are currently on the third spot, with only a point to choose between them and Real Madrid, but would be away to Athletic Bilbao’s San Mames stadium. A trip to the stadium has mostly produced a favourable outcome
for the Catalonians, as they have lost only twice in 12 visits to the Sam Mames. Yet, Barcelona has also not hit its top form so far in the season and lost their opening home game of the season to Hercules. Barcelona registered a 2-0 victory over Athletico
Madrid but produced a second-rated performance against Sporting Gijon. The side only just managed to register a victory, as the outfit looked tired and uninspired without top man Lionel Messi, who is injured for another week.
Barcelona star defender Gabriel Milito expressed his concern regarding the weekend encounter with Athletic Bilbao and claimed that Barcelona would be facing a tough side in Athletic Bilbao on the weekend. In Spanish football, Bilbao’s home fixture is considered
to be one of the toughest and with the side travelling without Lionel Messi, anything can happen with the defending Champions.
