Footballers in need of transfer before window close
Exactly one week is left for the transfer window to close and time is quickly running out for some players if they are to secure their prospects of playing regularly.
Here is the list of a few footballers who still have something to offer but at their present clubs they can’t:
- Michael Owen
Manchester United once again have a fully fit forward line. The team sheet during first few games of the season surely had an unpleasant reading for Michael Owen, who was not even on the bench for the visit of Newcastle while against Fulham; he was just an ineffective substitute. With the arrival of Javier Hernandez and the progress of Kiko Macheda, it seems that Owen has fallen further behind in the pecking order at United. With the striker turning 31 in December and also with his injury record, the odd sub appearance and an occasional start will not help him at all. Perhaps, he may want to end his career playing for a lowly team but playing regularly.
- Manuel Almunia
If you judge by logic, it states that after having started the first two game of the season, Almunia is the best/least bad keeper currently in the Arsenal squad but things could take a dramatic turn if Schwarzer arrives from Fulham. Will Almunia desire to be a permanent substitute? Perhaps not and that is the sole reason why the keeper should start at least weighing his options.
-Javier Mascherano
To be or not to be sympathetic towards Javier Mascherano is a very tricky question. It’s easy to forget how much money the young man has and also his commitment. He is behaving somewhat like a rebel at Liverpool and with Barcelona now putting in a concrete bid, the midfielder is all set to leave but one unhelpful factor is the hardball stance by Roy Hodgson. It seems that he will not let the man go for cheap and Barcelona don’t have that much money. The situation is tricky and the only man suffering is Masch.
- Shay Given
It would be unfair to Given, if he is classified as a reject. He surely will be in the Manchester City’s 22 as a couple of clangers by Hart or an injury surfaces. However, the million dollar question is will he be patient enough to grace the subs bench? Given clearly said before the start of the season that he will look for regular football elsewhere if he is not guaranteed a place in the City’s starting lineup. By the looks of things, he should start looking around and with a goal keeper of his class there should be no shortage of suitors. After all, with the goal keeping crisis at Arsenal and Schwarzer’s age, Given will be a much better option for Wenger but is Arsene wise enough to sign him?
Meanwhile, with the summer spending almost done at City it will be very interesting to see who will make it to Mancini’s 25 man squad. It will be an interesting guess game but after careful research and assumption, one can come to the conclusion that there are 22 players who are certain for a place in the 25 leaving Micheal Johnson, Roque Santa Cruz, Felipe Caicedo, Jo and Robinho to fight it out for the remaining three spots.
Some of these might decide to remain content with the consolation prize of being fourth or fifth preferred choice in their position but the dignified ones will surely be looking for a move elsewhere.
