Most of the French national team
The French national team tends to brew scandals off the pitch with a lot of ease but so far, things seem to be pretty quiet for the French footballers. However in May, police were forced to investigate a case which involved Franck Ribery, Karim Benzema, Sidney Govou and Hatem Ben Arfa. Although the scandal serious, but it wasn’t pursued after a month or two by the media and soon after, the entire brouhaha died down.
A Hat Trick by Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney has admitted that when he was 16 years old and on the verge of making his move to Manchester United, he had opted for the services of a 48 year old woman who he paid 45 pounds an hour.
In December 2002, the player was caught paying 140 pounds for the services of another woman. The matter was never really resolved and Wayne Rooney was rumoured to have left a note to Charlotte Glover who wished to take him to court over this. The note read, “To Charlotte, I shagged you on 28th December. Loads of Love. Wayne Rooney.”
Wayne Rooney’s latest women related controversy came to surface right before the team’s match against Switzerland. The player was rumoured to have cheated on his wife while she was pregnant with their second child.
Peter Crouch
Last month, the News of the World claimed that the six foot seven inch tall striker, Peter Crouch was reported to have paid around 800 pounds for the services of Monica Mint during a visit to Madrid.
Ronaldo
The Brazilian legend quite possible was at an all time low when he found himself in a rather bizarre situation. The player was rumoured to have once picked up three women and was on his way to take them to a motel. When they arrived at the venue, the player realized that he had in fact picked up three transvestites who managed to get 15,000 pounds from the player.
Czech national team
One of the biggest lows for Czech Republic came about when the entire team was caught in a prostitution scandal following their defeat against Slovakia. The scandal managed to claim the careers of Coach Petr Rada and players Tomas Ujfalusi, Milan Baros, Radoslav Kovac, Martin Fenin, Marek Matejovsky and Vaclav Sverkos. However, when the team played miserably, the players had to be reinstated.
Israel national team
Israel was on the brink of qualification for Euro 2000. However, a humiliating eight 8-0 defeat at the hands of Denmark saw the team knocked out of the tournament. Once the matter was further investigated, it was found that several players had invested in the services of call girls the night before. This led to four unnamed players banned from the team for a significant period.
Freddy Shepherd and Douglas Hall
Newcastle is a team that has had its fair share of problems in the past. However, one of the lowest points for the team came about when the teams’ board members Freddy Shepherd and Douglas Hall were caught in a Spanish brothel where they went on to mock team legend, Alan Shearer and discussed how they made major profits over selling defected shirts and replicas which they claimed to be first grade jerseys.
Avram Grant
When Avram Grant was in charge of Portsmouth, he was found to be visiting a Thai outfit which provided services involving women near Southampton. The manager was initially kept in the dark over the case, but was eventually brought into the limelight after British tabloids decided to investigate the case even further.
