Question:

Footling breech at 36+3 days?

Hi everyone:

I had an ultrasound today and found out my baby is footling breech (has one foot down and is bum first). I originally went because I am measuring small and then found out this! I was told by my midwife the last few appointments that the baby was head down, so it must have moved. What are the chances baby will move to head down position now or is it likely I will have to have a c section?

  1. Babies are all different.  My baby was breech until the last week.  I went in for a Monday appointment and he was breech.  When I went into labor three days later and went to the hospital he had turned completely around.  The doctor told me because he was still small enough to move a little, he shifted into the head first position.  That was the greatest news, no c-section!

  2. They say it's normal for babies to still be flip flopping at that age. However, the chances of them staying that way are higher than normal because you're almost technically "full-term". Your midwife still should be able to try a few things to get the baby to turn. If that doesn't work, chances are you'll have to have a c-section.

  3. i had an ultrasound and found my baby is breech too. i'm 35 weeks and 2 days. my doctor told me that it is possible for the baby to turn around, but the bigger the baby gets, the harder it is for them to turn. but is possible so stress about it. when you go into labor, just let the nurses and doctors know that you last heard that the baby is breech and they will do an ultra sound to see where to go from there. i hope this helped.

  4. it's still possible for the baby to move i hope it does for you

  5. There is something you can do to turn your baby. Get on your hands and knees and rock side to side, not back and forth.  Back and forth will help your baby drop if it hasn't already but side to side should help move it. There is still a chance that you would have to have a c section but this may lower those chances.
