Footwear for winter surfing?

What do other people wear on their feet when surfing this time of year? I'm new to "proper" surfing but would wear wetsuit boots in my sailing dinghy and fin sock with my bodyboard, however what gives the best purchase on a longboard? bare feet or one of the above?

Thanks

  1. Bare feet, don't worry bout your feet, just keep em warmed up with moving around alot, I surf without a wetsuit half the time during winter, I live in Fl though.  If your somewhere above S.C. than I'd say go with a wetsuit with some built in feet.  Those are always warm and you dont have to worry about them being a big hassle.  Get rubber soles on them also.

  2. There are booties that have rubber souls, they are a little thicker than rubber socks. Besides they can zipper up when you need to. These don't have fins. They are used also for scuba diving and work great for surfing. The soul has a sticky substance on the bottom for better traction.

  3. Should think that would be best, without you will only freeze your feet off and have to get off the water all the sooner..ive tried seal skinz gloves and they are good, grippy and waterproof! (i kayak not windsurf tho) so shoes may ne same..

  4. For surfing I have been using wetsuit/surfing boots with a speical grip on the bottom to help you grip.  If the sea is damm cold, like here in the UK!, then it probably would be best to wear some kinda boot if you wanna feel ur feet afterwards. xtra thick ones help too.

  5. u probably should, but it depends on where u r like in southern cali u don't need them nor in the tropics.
