So I am looking for a TV, and read a lot of articles, but very few on 37", whether 1080p or 720p is better, and information on the other specifications such as frame rate and contrast ratio.

My needs:

- using it for the wii (guitar hero) thus do not want lag

- will buy a blue ray player or ps3 in the future.

- prefer a name brand -sharp,samsung

- have a budget (no more than 1000)

Please let me know what specs I should look for, thank you very much in advance!

  1. for a 37 inch tv, you probably wont notice the difference between 720p and 1080p. save the money and go the 720p.

  2. Sometimes, a 720p TV will look better than a 1080p set, particularly at a certain price point.  In your case, it's a tough call, since there are a few well-liked 37" 1080p sets right around $1000.

Amazon has a well-reviewed 37" Samsung 1080p for $1015, or a 37" Sharp 720p for $836 (via 6th Ave Electronics).  I think either of those would be fine choices.  I'd go for the Samsung personally.  I've got a 46" Samsung and love it (the LN46A650 model).
