I'd go for the new Beemer.   MB's have not been all that reliable as of late.

I would go with the new BMW.

The MB's have not been as reliable lately.  Plus they just came out with a new version of the SL for 09 so that will hurt the resale of the used one.

I would caution that the BMW 335 and an SL500 is not really in the same class though.  MB bigger and more luxury and twice the price.  BMW more sporty and recently harder to find due to new style and hard top.  Don't go with 328 Conv.

For me new with warranty always better!

Advantage of a Mercedes in this situation in that that at it harmonious a roof metal and if necessary can be made it a high-grade compartment and at BMW a roof to mine vinylic or something like that.

A Mercedes is more comfortable also conditions in it more calms than forces you to feel you the racer and in BMW you will wish to squeeze out a maximum more.

Besides you have not specified volume of the engine at BMW which you wish to choose and BMW 6 series approach for comparison with Mercedes CL of a class more.
