For 6 year old boy, what are some fun things to do?

I'm a Big Brother to a 6 y/o boy. I'm picking him up today for our 1st outting.

I decided to go fishing, and hes pretty excited to go.

I went and bought him his own small tackle box and filled it up with some goodies.

But what other things can we do. I'm really not "UP" an what 6 year old kids like to do.

I'll try to ask him today. But I know hes a little shy when I met him and his mom at the Big Borther Big Sister office.

I just want to keep him busy, plus put a smile on his face.

Plus I don't want to come on to strong and not have him like me...I'm sort of scared of doing that also.

Any tips would be GREAT!!!

  1. My 6 yr old likes to play any type of sports, playing with toy cars, riding bikes, really just anything that gets him dirty. He likes to look for bugs and then we do research on them to find out what type they are and what they like to it.  He also likes putting some of the model cars together.  Michael's Craft Store has some that you and him can put together and then he can paint it whatever color he wants.  (They are wood and have to be glued together but the parts aren't all that small).

  2. You can't top fishing dude! It's a great time and leaves equal time to talk about important things to him and things in his life. My hat's off to you Sir.

Other things if weather doesn't permit,

    building models

    acceptable movies

cultural events / if he seems like he might be interested.

tour the city / places he's never had the opportunity to go before.

    Hikes

    Bike rides

    Air shows

    Car races

    Motor Cycle/dirt bike races

The more you get to know him the more ideas will come to mind.

  3. My best friend has a son that is 6 as well.  He likes to go see monster trucks, dirt track racing, carnivals to name a few things.  He likes to go to the playground.  He loves video games (especially wii) and drawing.  You could go find a couple of cheap matbox cars and push them around making obnoxious noises.  Squirt guns, those little guns that shoot foam disks.  The possibilities are endless!  Oh and ice cream!

  4. like you said ask him....but basically have fun with him that is what he needs...by just asking simple questions you will get to know the boy...talk about your likes... men never stop being boys,lolll...they can often relate and enjoy being with a 6 year old because they still like cars,superheros,comics,etc....

Just be yourself it will go good

  5. That's great that you are involved in the BB/BS program! I have a 6 yr. old son. We like to go to parks with baseball mits and a bat and play ball together. Get the softer training ball or a "T" ball though or you could take a hit to the wrong area! We also enjoy going to a minor league ballpark and watch the local team play. All kinds of activity going on at the stadium. Fairs, carnivals, amusement parks, etc. are also good, cheap fun. Some kids can just be happy being with you and throwing stones into the creek while having an ice cream cone. It doesn't take much. Have fun, and congrats on being a big brother!

  6. Fishing, camping, playing video games.
