We had to read the constitution for the summer, just wondering did we have to memorize the whole thing? I read it but I forgot a lot of the stuff (like sections, articles, etc).

  1. Nope, we just had to know the gist of it!

  2. No, there's no way that you have to memorize the Constitution word-for-word.  However, you should know what it says and in what section it says it.  For example, you should know that the minimum age to be president is 35 (and you should know which of the seven sections that fact appears in).

And yes, the amendments are a part of the Constitution.  You should memorize what each of them deals with, but you don't have to memorize the exact words.  For example, you should know that the First Amendment guarantees freedom of assembly (among other things).

  3. HAHAHAHAHA!  I finished LAW SCHOOL without memorizing the Constitution.  Knowing which articles grant which powers are good in general, but no one is going to expect you to know the document word for word.

  4. Who memorizes..the Constitution..It's so dang long. You just need to know the basic concept of it.
