Question:

For Asthma Sufferers?

I asked this question yesterday, but didn't get any answers. So I'd like to ask one more time. I am kind of scared.

I am making a Dr. appointment today because I have been having trouble breathing. It feels like I have to take a deep breath, but when I try to, it feels like I'm not getting enough air out to satisfy the feeling. It's hard to explain, almost like I need to yawn, but can't quite reach the peak of the yawn. I am a light smoker. (4-5) cigs a day. I have even been cutting back more than that and am trying to quit having any at all.

Does this sound like asthma? I don't know of anyone in my family that has it, but I remember having this same feeling briefly when I was young. Why am I all of a sudden (over 10 yrs later) having problems with it? Also, if you do have asthma, what other symptoms do you have? Please help! Thanks

  1. No it sound more like it's from your cigarette smoking.

I've had asthma since I was little, and when you have an asthma attack you feel like youre a fish out of water, and you also have a wheezing sound in your lungs.  I still think its a good idea you keep your appt. with you dr.  But I think he will say the same thing.  It's important that you quit before you do anymore damage to you lungs.  Plus, medication treatment for asthma is not nessicarily good for your lungs either.

  2. I got adult asthma from smoking when i was 22 years of age. I never had any type of lung problems before hand. I had not been a smoker for that long. It progressed very quickly and got worse and worse. I quit smoking immediately, but it did not fix it. Though, in many cases it does.

Yes, you can have asthma. Stop trying to cut back and simply stop. If you stop now, you might save yourself much heartache! No more playing around with your lungs.

What you describe sounds like the begining of a lung problem. Whether it's going to be asthma or emphasema only time will tell. But it's not a full attack either. A true asthma attack is one that you can neither breath deeply in or out. You know you aren't breathing up to par at all and it feels like you just ran really hard. Of course, the worst the attack, the harder it is to breathe.

Often the beginning stages of asthma feel like you have bronchitis. That's what i thought was wrong with me for a long time. Up until my husband came home and saw one of these little attacks, whereas he begged me to go to the doctor. Or forced me i should say.

Family members don't have to have asthma for you to get it from smoking. Smoking asthma is the hardest to get rid of if you continue smoking.

Every body has a limit of what they can and can't fight off anymore. Some smoke for 70 years with little problems. Some only smoke 4 with major problems. It's becasue each body is different. Chose wisely, for you may not like the consequences.
