  1. Divination occurs in the OT, but is generally administered by priests.

Which does sort of make you wonder...

  2. You're looking for sense in the bible?

You're better off with Hairy Potter.

    peace

  3. well see, all nonsense is bad nonsense, except for god-approved nonsense, which is not bad nonsense

  4. Because prophets are actually seeing the true future shown to them by God, whereas fortune telling and tarot are forms of wichery

  5. Prophets are moved by the Holy Spirit.

Fortune tellers, tarot card readers, and mediums of all sorts draw on the power of other, less-than-holy spirits.

  6. Prophets impart information that God wants you to know; fortune tellers impart information that YOU want to know.   Big difference!

  7. Prophets are very different from fortune tellers.

  8. The difference is that the prophets were directed by God and others were not.  You will also see lots of references to casting lots in the old testament especially in Samuel and Kings.

  9. It all depends on who you're consulting.  Tarot cards and fortune telling aren't consulting God, they're consulting other "spirits".  If you're going to any other spiritual being other than the one true God, that's a no-no.  Predicting the future (like prophets often do), is fine if its from God.

  10. Prophets are inspired by God to give prophecies, while usually fortune-tellers in the bible are possessed by demons.

  11. A prophet is not primarily one who foresees but one who says "This is God's word for this generation"

As people change very little, their messages remain relevant.

The test of time is a fair indicator.   (e.g. Micah said the Mssiah would be born in Bethlehem)

  12. Both the things you mention are things of man...not of God. A man can not tell another man's future...unless that info is given to him by God. How many fortune tellers or tarot card readers have told you that they got the message from God?

  13. Those who were told by God what to prophecy were obviously genuine but there were those who God condemned who prophesied things just to please people like kings. They had no foundation in truth.

Tarot cards and fortune telling are just nonesense that can mess up peoples minds.

  14. Prophets are people speaking from God.  They didn't rely on reading and interpreting peculiar signs in cards, stars, sticks, tea leaves, hands, etc. but got their inspiration directly.

Some of the time, miracles served as proof that a message was from God.  But at others, there might be one true prophet in among many false ones, and the only way to tell the true one, as is the only way to tell the true religion today, was to compare what was being said to what God was known to have said in the past.

Remember that the 'wise men' of the Bible were also the ones who informed Herod about Jesus, which would have led to him being killed - their practising astrology clearly caused them to carry out the wish of Satan, not God.  Notice that when God told them not to go back to Herod, He did it not through some sign in the stars, but by speaking to them directly in a dream.  (Matt 2:12)

Are tarot-cards harmless?  All depends on what they tell you, doesn't it?  If it leads you to avoid getting closer to God, as it frequently does, it becomes far from harmless.

  15. one is from God the other is not.

  16. In principle God could tell a Christian to pick cards from tarot pack and then God could explain how the resulting symbols indicate some aspect of the future - but this a limited and round-about way of doing it and might lead to confusion by association with those who believe that spirits other than God are to be trusted through the tarot method...

Its much more elegant for most purposes and fulfilling for the Christian to have prophecies inserted directly into their minds...

  17. Fortune telling/tarot cards have demons influence. The true prophets from back then had God's spirit, thus had God's influence.

  18. A prophet delivers a message that is presumed to be from God.  It is expected that the message is profound and will alter the course of action for those who hear and believe.

A fortune teller uses their own skills or tools to predict the future.

The difference is that a prophet is used by God to deliver a message.  A fortune teller uses their own skills/talents to predict an event.

  19. apparently you have to get permission from god first.:)

  20. everything that is a gift from God, is good, if you have to summon something else, then not so good.
