  1. You may do better on a maintenance dose of oral antibiotic such as a macrolide or a tetracycline.   You may wish to ask your doctor about this and if he can't or won't prescribe this and you've given all other palliative treatments a try, ask to see an anterior segment specialist, an ophthalmologist who treats the front portion of the eye specifically.

  2. Hello. Sometimes you can get eye infections, or styes, from your make-up. Bacteria can get trapped inside your mascara tube, and you can keep re-infecting yourself whenever you use it. Make sure you replace your eye liners, mascara, and eyeshadow, each time you get an infection. And don't EVER share any of these products with any of your friends.

  3. Your doctor should have mentioned the first line of treatment and prevention -- warm compresses.

While you have an active stye, you should do warm compresses to the lid for 15min, three times per day.

You evidently are prone to have these, so you should routinely be scrubbing gently at the base of your eyelashes with a washcloth with baby shampoo daily.

If you begin the warm compresses at the first indication of a stye, you may stop it immediately.
