The thing is that i'm moving to France and i will go to school there in 2nd grade there. I was wondering how do you go on your first day of school(after summer vacation)? do you bring flowers to the teachers? (in our country we do this) i would like to be informed about what do you actually do on your first school day. i don't want to embarrass myself by doing something stupid. thank you for your help.

  1. Hello,

Sorry, I don't understand what 2nd grade is - maybe if you could let me know your age? Do you know what Class you will go to?

Anyway, between around 12 to 18 you will go to different class every hour depending on subjects, as in many schools in the world.

You should contact the school before the first day to ask where exactly you should go to start with.

We do not bring anything to our teachers.

On the first day, they just take your details, introduce themselves and the program.

Some will give you a short exam - to see what your level is.

The school should let you know what to bring, but as long as you have pens and paper, you will be fine.

by the way, in France, we use ink pens, not pencils.

Do contact the school though. For example, you might have sport on the first day, so you will need your kit.

Don't worry, you will be fine. After a week, you will feel like you had been in the class for ever!

If you need more details, please ask.

Enjoy your stay and good luck!

  2. You don't have to bring anything but writing tools and paper. On that day you will be given your timetable, which classes goes where etc. You should have received your list of mandatory school books and what stationary you need and have bought them before school started. If you don't have them, your parents should contact the school and ask for it.

And by the way, in French schools there is no pledge to anyone.

    Have a nice time.

Edit : Do you mean 2nd grade (you're six years old) or secondary school? (from 12 to 18 years old which is what I think you are)

  3. ur to young to be on this

  4. First you pledge your eternal allegiance to Nicolas Sarkozy.

    Then the teacher takes attendance.

  5. If your in second grade then 1st off wow second yo shouldnt worry if your an exchange student they wont expect anything.

  6. Nothing at all...You are going to enter high school, right?

This is what is going to happen.

Usually the first or "rentree" is a bit special. Depending of the school, you are requested to be there either in the morning or at 10 or at 1pm. It depends of the size. they don't want to have all the grades arriving at 8am. Ask your school. Usually they have it on their voicemail a week before the rentree.

Then you proceed to the main Quad (called Cours de Recreation) and there will be some list of names going by "classe", this is a the group of people you are going to spend the whole year with (usually 26 to 36 in number).

At the bell one of the teacher will come and get you and then when you are in the classroom he/she will take role, ask you to fill up a bit of paper with your name birthdate, what you like to do etc..., give you your schedule, remind your of the rules of conduct, give you a list of books and supplies (you should have received it before though).

    Have fun!
