  1. In short (cause I have my 10' breather from work) I think of football (Beckham!), music (Depeche Mode etc),  movies (Guy Ritchie etc), books (from Oscar Wilde to Kinsella etc) pubs, and then of course yeah I 'd say drinking but this would not be the first thing on my mind!

(And humus is not Greek)   Have a good time in Greece!!!!!!

  2. As a Brit living in Greece I hope you don't mind me adding my two penneth worth!

A stereotypical Greek view of the British is unfortunately that we are all lager louts & this is perpetuated by the TV coverage every Summer of the appaling behaviour of the Club 18-30 types in places like Malia & Faliraki. I think this is where the 'British girls are easy' also comes from as they do tend to get easier after a few lagers!

When I picture England now through my rose-coloured glasses I think of how lush & green it is, how polite & smiley everyone is but also how reserved the Brits tend to be compared to the passionate Greeks!

Incidentally, I think it is Marks & Spencer's fault that humous is thought of as Greek as they sell it as a 'Greek Dip'!

  3. I hope you don't get mad with me, but for me, most are cold people and the girls are really easy in my point of view.

Also they have a really good education.

    Well, a really GOOD education!

  4. When you say Britain/Βritish, Ι think of:

The British Empire, the military bases in Cyprus, nice accents (I've heard British accents from many different places and I really like them, much more than the American ones), rock bands (really good), boat racing in Cambridge/Oxford (lol), habeas corpus, the evolution of the parliamentary system (law student, lol), Monty Python and that other show with the Prime Minister (don't remember the name, but I used to watch it), the stolen Marbles (we want them back), great literature, naval history (Greece also has a special relationship with the sea), London (crazy city, one of the best places I've ever visited), ballads (the trees they do grow high), fish and chips (yummy), the films of Ken Loach, the scottish castles, Lord Byron (apart from his poetry, we Greeks like him for obvious reasons... People here are still naming their children Byron), tea and the drunken people that come over here on holidays...

I hope you have a nice time here! :)

  5. I'm not Greek  (British) but have to answer as I have lived 20+ years in Greece and heard all sorts of comments.

    Stereotypes

Drunk - loutish behaviour - cold people - tight with money - all blonde - scruffy and we all speak with an accent like the Queen. We don't care about family life as we leave home before 30! Aggressive .. fighting, crimes etc

England - London (nowhere else exists) Rain - rain and rain - better education (loads of Greeks in UK universities) better hospitals (but with Greek docs). Stolen marbles. Envy us that we don't have to pay to learn English. Better job opportunities

What they are surprised about (when they get to know us) is that we are not all drunken lager louts - that we are not all blond or cold ... that we have a great sense of humour ... that it doesn't rain non-stop or that most of us have respect for elders.

    Truth from a Brit

Yes we do drink too much (especially young - Greeks smoke wayy too much) that we do get into fights easily. There is a lot of disrepect from young louts on holiday in Greece behaviour that they wouldn't get away with in UK. (Also fault of Greece for allowing such disgusting behaviour)

We have they best sense of humour in the world - some of the best comedies and comedy acts in the world (Greece has no tv shows that even come close to UK standard of acting) We can laugh at ourselves and really don't care about the weather (even though we like to complain).

Our country is green and lush and as Byron said - Derbyshire beauty compares easily to Greece. - Unfortunately Brits are obsessed with shopping and miss out on the beauty of UK by spending weekends at shopping malls!

I wish Brits had just a small piece of the Greek patrionism and pride for their heritage/ history and country  as Greeks do for Greece.

PS some of your things you associate with Greece are wrong - (amongst others) humous is NOT Greek

PPS I forgot MANNERS - we have the best manners in the world - drives my Greek husband MAD - I'm all Please - thank you - sorry!!!! I drill it into the kids (and him) I litter my Greek with the words (makes them laugh) Hubby said 'If you kill someone and say sorry, does that make it ok in England?'

  6. When l think of England it comes in my mind the British Empire, fish and Chips, NATO-military forces, rain, Beer, football, Jaguar ( car) , Land Rover, Universities, polite people, Benny Hill, my neighbours in Cyprus, sunburn ( because Brits tend to burn themselves under the sun for hours in order to get a tan), charter flights, overweight young drunk girls ( sorry to say but l have noticed that lately English girls are overweight - in contrast to the past - i remember 10-15 yrs ago Brit girls were very slim and well-dressed), drugs ( in Cyprus many times Brits asked me where they could buy drugs),.

But allow me to say what l think about national pride for English people: I happen to know many people from England and UK in general and l have noticed that they are extreme proud of their country and nationality. Especially by the fact that Great Britain was a super power some years ago ( see former Brit colonies). For example in Cyrpus l have heard from many Brits that Cyprus is developed today only because of Britain and that they consider Cyrpiots incapable in everything ( of course Cyrpus was a Brit colony and we have "inhertitaged" parts of the Brit system which is very lets say organized but after that we had the Turkish invasion etc and the entire economy colapsed is just days so we had to built everything from the start)

Also the fact that they do not consider themselves European, l have noticed that they refer to Europeans " them....and us ( British)" . Also about humour....it took me a long time to start understanding it :) I haven't noticed self sacrasm though. Mostly humour refers to thirds ( especially between friends)

  7. First of all I d like to tell you that humous is not Greek.Having lived in Zakynthos (Zante) ,this have "changed" a bit about Brits...

    I'll be Tottaly honest:

When they are not drunk they are the most well-mannered people(as Asimenia told),but when they are drunk they are bad-bad-bad...

(I worked in an airport and i remember that the drunks where farting all over and burbing-funny huh?)

Brits girl tend to be "easy" in the s*x,and many times they are coming in order to get laid.

Taking apart the tourists, when i think of England, first I thing their accent(hugh Grant is typical for me),I think about their good soccer (exept the no-participation in Europe),i think of their opposite-driving,I think of the two-floors red buses,I think of young blonde, wrecked little kids(they are just adorable) and about them being burned by greek sun and smeel sunblock wherever they go!!!!!!!

  8. Drunk people, rain, wonderful accents, Shakespeare, very good actors/actresses, polite people when in England-not so polite when they are in Greece, well organised museums, terrible food, London: what a city!, good music, good literature, picturesque villages, boring little towns, beautiful landscapes, interesting sense of humour.

  10. English bands (great music), drunk people, America's puppet, rain, colonies, amazing accents(s**y as h**l!),Queen, Manchester United, rain, fish and chips, Top gear, English Flem, Aston Martin, politeness, skin cancer(they always get sun burns), Greek marbles collection, rain.

Anyway I can say that my opinion on English people is surely a positive one and my opinion on England (politically) is all bad because of war supporting and expansionary policies of the past.

For what it's worth I wish Greeks had English manners when interacting with one another
