For Parakeet owners only.?

Question

We have one male Princess of Wales Parakeet. He is getting old and lonely now and we're considering a mate for him. Using the modern technique of setting up a new cage next to his cage so the two birds can get used to one another we have a few questions for people who have done the same thing, introducing another bird to the other one.

- If we do decide to get another bird, what would be the most suitable gender. Rolo is a male so the other bird should be male or female?

- What are the chances of the birds to get along?

- What would be the price of a similar sized bird and a small basic metal cage?

wow, i've never spoken to another person with a princess a princess of wales, mines called figo and he's 7 this september, perhaps they could get together for some company, lol, he's a bit of a spoilt bully tho, just takkes takes takes :)

If you do get another one it would be best to get a female, but the chances that they will get on are slim. Very few birds who have lived on their own for a long time take kindly to another bird invading their territory.

Prices vary considerably across the country and in different pet shops.

The best thing you can do is make his last years very happy and spend a lot of time with him, giving him lots of attention. He will probably appreciate that more than another bird coming in and being younger, louder, and more agile than him, one who will get your attention more than Rolo. He may well feel left out.

Prince of Wales were once and I believe still are a much sought after bird,they can also demand a good price here in the U.K.

Not knowing the age of your bird! then we cannot say it is Old,they can live up to 20+ years in captivity,

Because of them being in short supply there were a number of X breeding So there are still not many pure bred stock about.
