instead of los angeles,ca

why is that ?

are these just districts or separate cities ?

  1. Los Angeles is so vast, in sheer area, that areas are given their own names. Van Nuys, South Central, Hollywood, etc. are all part of Los Angeles. Look to the ZIP code. If it is 900xx, it is part of the City of Los Angeles. Any other ZIP code (91xxx, 901xx, etc.) is part of the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, which is comprised of many municipalities (we do not have Boroughs out here).

Do I like living here? Sure. Only problem is that lots and lots and LOTS of other people like living here, too. Traffic can be a nightmare.

We Angelenos (as we are called) have many "secret" routes to get from place to place while avoiding the worst traffic. Of course, if I tell you any, there goes the secret.

One trait I have always loved about Angelenos giving directions is our use of "The (Freeway #)". Example:

To get from my house to the Venice Boardwalk, take the 210 to the 2 to the 5 to the 110 to the 10 to the 1.

Or you could take the 210 to the 2 to the 134 to the 101 to the 405 to the 10 to the 1, but that is really out of the way, and the 405 is a nightmare.

I suppose you could take the 210 to the 118 to the 5 to the 405 to the 10 to the 1, but really, gas is so expensive here.
