For People 25 and Older Please - Time Perception?

This is a very odd question, but one that has been bothering me for awhile. Does any one else feel as their perception of time is speeding up? I feel that days and months seem to passing by a lot faster than they used to and this feeling only increases as I get older. I remember being a teenager and an hour could seem to last for ever - now a week seems to pass in the blink of an eye. Is this just a fact of growing older? Please. serious answers only. Thank you :)

  1. It is only a perception thankfully, a study was done a few years ago and it's got something to do with having learned all the stuff we know now.  Our brain bypasses a lot more information the older we get and decides it is not important compared to someone who is a child or a teenager.  Compare that to a child who has to pick all this stuff up and absorb it, this process takes longer and seems to slow down time for children.  Maybe that's why they get bored so easily.  I believe it's similar to when you make a long trip to somewhere new.  The journey to the new destination seems to take longer (time slows down) than the journey back home again (time speeds up), have you ever noticed that?  Here's another one, you have been on the computer for an hour and you look at a digital clock with hours, minutes and seconds to see what time it is.  The moment you look at the clock the seconds seem to freeze for a much longer time than an actual second, it seems to freeze for about 2 to 3 seconds and then the number changes.  Or what about if you are working on something at a table like a crossword puzzle or some craft and you are deeply engrossed in it, all of a sudden you notice something rolling off the table and it's about to fall on the floor, it seems to slow down but you still sit there and don't reach out to grab it before it falls?

  2. It is true!  I'm nearly 38 years old and let me tell you, it doesn't seem possible that I am celebrating another birthday.  The year just flew by.

My parents (Mom is 64, Dad is 66) say it even goes faster the older they get.

So, I believe this is just a fact of us getting older.

    Let's make it count!!!

  3. I am only nineteen, I apologize for not listening to your twenty five and older talk. However, I have something very important to say that may aide you in seeking an answer. There is such a thing as the "Schumann Resonance." The resonance of Earth (Schumann Resonance) has been 7.8Hz for thousands of years. However, the "heart beat" of Mother Earth has been rising since 1980. It is at about 12 cycles at present.

Time is purely based on perception, it was created by humans and therefore does not really exist, other than as an abstract concept used to help us remain punctual due to our short life spans. Time is of the essence, as they say. That bit about the Schumann Resonance essentially means that the gravitational field of earth is changing, hence a scientific reason that could explain why everyone, not just you, is experiencing such a drastic change in the rate at which time passes. My mother is fifty four, and I absolutely love collecting wisdom from my elders. She tells me that time does seem to speed up as you get older, something I have been noticing as of late, but that it has never been as fast as it is now.

Something strange is going on here, and I am thrilled that you managed to find a piece of the puzzle.

  4. Time appears to go faster as we get older.  Think about it - for a 5 year old child, one year is one/fifth of his life, but for a 25 year old person one year is one/twenty-fifth.
